Tuesday was a partly to mostly sunny, snowless day that started out mild but temperatures started to drop significantly in the afternoon and evening with significant wind chills heading towards the 0 mark. Tuesday temperature changes were quite dynamic starting out mild and then dropping all afternoon into the evening, then flattening out overnight in the low 20s. Winds really picked up after the frontal passage, and wind chills dropped towards the 0 mark by the end of the day. I have attached a small file of a plot of my pressure change all day, along with my temperatures and dew points. Interesting to see the various interactions between those three parameters. Dew points were in the mid 30s around mid-day, then dropped like the air temp all afternoon, and kept dropping in the evening and overnight, but at a much slower rate but still down to around 10 at obs, and now at this early AM time just prior to sunrise down to around 5. The Tuesday minimum temperature from the VP2 (21.8°) was recorded at 2359 while the maximum temperature (45.1°) was recorded at 1333. Dew point temps ranged from 35° midday (1213) down to + 6° at 2214. Relative humidity values lowered some today (79% – 47%), especially late.. Barometric values lowered significantly till bottoming out in the early afternoon, then started to rise late (please refer to my weatherlink generated graph that is my featured image associated with this post if it comes out OK- turns out it looks larger/better to me as it appears below this paragraph), ranging from a high of 29.85″ at 0009 down to 29.53″ in the early afternoon at 1332.

I am also now on weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115. Please take note that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. With continued above freezing temperatures on Monday, the snow continued to melt in the tipping bucket gauges at my station and Lakewood, probably done now as we are again in bare ground mode.

Tuesday morning found us still cloudy in the AM, but clearing skies in the late AM and mild temps till early afternoon, then the big plunge took place much of the rest of the day. Temps stayed relatively mild overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, on warmer southerly winds ahead of the cold front. Wednesday looks sunny and cold, with highs in the low 30s and lows in the upper 20s with a 20 POP for an isolated snow flurry or snow shower in the evening. Thursday should moderate some under partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper-mid 30s and lows in the low 20s. Friday should have partly cloudy skies with high temps in the mid 30s and lows in the upper-mid 20s and no chance for snow. Milder over the weekend with partly cloudy skies on Saturday and highs in the low 40s, lows in the mid 20s, then cloudy on Sunday, with highs in the mid 40s, and a 60 POP for rain, lows in the upper-mid 30s.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 0804 radar is showing scattered snow shower action over much of the Great Lakes states, particularly in the Lake Effect regions of NW PA and NY, and a more general area of snow over much of the northern half of Michigan and Wisconsin.

There was no snow or rain in the cocorahs gauge on Tuesday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony registered no precipitation on Tuesday, so the “drip-through” has definitely finished out.

December precipitation is 0.40″ through midnight obs Tuesday.

December snowfall is 3.1″. The seasonal snowfall total is also 3.1″.

Year-to-date precipitation total is 38.91″

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded no more melted snow through midnight on Tuesday. They are still reporting 0.47″ of precipitation falling up to this point in December, and a grand total of 39.81″ of rain for the year-to-date value.

Temp from the VP2 at 2400 was 21.8 RH 60% BP 29.75R DP 10. Mostly clear, cold and dry at midnight.
