Sunday featured our first monthly precipitation in December, a whopping 0.04″ that fell in the early AM around 0600-0630, with the clouds moving out quickly and sun shining by 0900. Mostly sunny the rest of the day, a bit milder than yesterday. Temperatures started out mild with clouds and the rain – around 40°, then rose into the low 50s by mid-afternoon, then dropped off in the evening, reaching the low for the day just prior to midnight (mid 30s). Dew points were around 40° early, rose into the mid 40s by mid-afternoon, then dropped off to around the freezing mark in the late evening as we approached midnight. At 0816 we have a milky (high cloud) overcast partially blocking off the sun with temperatures in the low 30s. The Sunday minimum temperature from the VP2 (35.9°) was recorded at 2352 while the maximum temperature (52.3°) was recorded at 1457. Dew point temps ranged from 44° down to 32°. Relative humidity values were higher earlier in the day than yesterday but lower later (95% – 51%). Barometric values were about the same as yesterday’s values, ranging from a high of 30.33″ at 2335 down to 30.18″ at 0724.

I went out very late to read my rain gauge and drop off recycling items on the way out. It was indeed a frosty rain gauge (temp at the time of 0540 was 32.4°) amid the bright supermoon (See featured image and the image below). Notice that below the upper green cross piece no frost formed. Some “imperfections” in the frosted part of the image were caused by my necessary handling to get my daily measurement. 

We have sunny skies now with scattered high clouds at this point in the morning with temps in the low 30s. Monday should have sunny skies with scattered clouds at times with highs in the mid 50s and lows warming up to the mid 40s. Tuesday looks to have cloudy skies with a 90 POP for rain developing, with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the upper-mid 30s. Wednesday clears out by the afternoon and turns cooler, with highs in the upper 40s and lows in the upper 20s. This should be the beginning of a colder pattern thereafter heading through the rest of the week and into the weekend. Thursday should be partly cloudy with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 20s. Right now Friday looks to be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 30s, lows in the upper 20s, with just a 10 POP for snow. Further details on this change, including increasing chances for snow by next weekend, will be unfolding over the next several days.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 0816 their radar is showing a fairly large area of rain over much of the states of WI and MI at this time, heading NE.

There was 0.04″ of precipitation in my cocorahs gauge on Sunday through midnight. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony recorded 0.02″ of precipitation through midnight obs on Sunday. This light rain fell approximately between 0600 and 0630.

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.02″ of rain through midnight on Sunday. This adjusts previously reported amounts from yesterday’s report of 0.04″. Their year-to-date precipitation total is 39.36″, still partially estimated from radar.

Temp from the VP2 at 2400 was 35.9 RH 86% BP 30.32R DP 32.1. Clear and dry at midnight. Overnight low 32.4 at 0537.
