A cloudy, warmer, breezy at times, wet (late) update for West Rockville Maryland for Saturday November 18 2017
Saturday was a cloudy, warmer, breezy day that finally got a bit of rain right at the very end of the observation day (0.02″). Temperatures started in the mid 30s then warmed up all day after a warm front passed our area from south to north. Dew points rose later in the day, starting around 30° early then rising all day into the low 50s by the evening. Overnight rain since midnight has totalled 0.10″ in my VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge, with the barometric pressure bottoming out at 29.31″ at 0230. At 0834 we have broken to scattered stratocumulus on breezy NW winds as the colder air is advecting into the area. Temperatures are in the mid 40s. The Saturday minimum temperature from the VP2 (35.1°) was recorded at 0130 while the maximum temperature (60.3°) was recorded at 2204. Dew point temps ranged from 30° early up to 52° late. Relative humidity values rose a bit today (85% – 56%). Barometric values sank most all day, ranging from a high of 30.10″ at 0000 down to a low of 29.42″ at 2355.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444. I am also now on weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time.
I got up in the early afternoon and watched the first half of the Wisconsin/Michigan game on my phone on the FOX sports app, then the second half on my 50″ HD TV in the living room. I spoke with Tracy later on her way into work in the late afternoon, and Ray and Marty during the Badger game and thereafter, mostly about the Badger game (won by Wisconsin 24-10) and the game after that, in East Lansing MI, between the Maryland Terps and the Michigan State Spartans. That game started out in cold rain, but then started to mix with sleet and snow, and by the second half a nice, wet snow was falling but not really accumulating with temps in the mid 30s.
We are partly cloudy with scattered cumulus streaming in colder air on stiff NW breezes with temps in the mid 40s. Please take note of today’s featured image associated with this report – just taken at 0815 EST with a temp of 46 and winds blowing briskly from the WNW. Crows are flying again right now around my balcony. Variably cloudy and cooler on Sunday, with highs around 50° and lows around 30°. Sunny on Monday with highs again around 50° and lows in the lower-mid 30s. Tuesday should have partly cloudy skies with temps warming into the upper 50s, lows in the low 40s. Wednesday should be cooler under partly cloudy skies, with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid-upper 20s. Thanksgiving Day Thursday should find us mostly sunny with scattered clouds at times with highs in the mid 40s, lows around 30°.
On the Channel 4 weather website at 0834 radar is showing our earlier rain showers associated with the cold frontal passage have moved east over shore areas of MD, DE, NJ NY and over New England, and scattered light rain and snow showers over parts of western PA, WV, western MD and out over parts of the Great Lakes states in the typical lake effect snow regions.
As of 0834, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows :
