A clearing, colder, dry update for West Rockville Maryland for Friday November 10 2017

Friday stayed relatively mild overnight and somewhat damp, in the low-mid 40s, then mid-morning the wind picked up out of the NW and the temperatures failed to go up any more and started to slowly lower as the day progressed under mostly sunny skies. We reached the upper 20s by midnight obs. Dew points really dropped from the mid 40s down to the mid teens by midnight obs. At 0718 we have clear skies, light winds. Temperatures are now in the low 20s with dew points around 10°. The Thursday minimum temperature from the VP2 (28.4°) was recorded at 2359 while the maximum temperature (45.9°) was recorded at 0401. Dew point temps ranged from 45° down to 14°. Relative humidity values lowered today after early morning (98% – 42%). Barometric values really took off today with strong HIGH pressure moving in, ranging from a low of 30.05″ at 0123 then rising steadily all day up to 30.59″ at the very end of the day at 2350. That is the biggest daily rise I have had since last winter.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444. I am also now on weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time.

I  talked with Herb Close in the early evening about last minute party details. Herb is hosting a weather party all day Saturday at his house in Manchester MD, about 45 miles NNE of here so if anyone is around the area, try and stop in. Today’s featured image is a picture of the party invitees from 2012. I also had a second conversation with Ray and some party discussion with Marty. I was busy posting about a research project done in the summer of 2015 on variations of the minimum temps recorded around the city of Baltimore using many IButton thermometers temporarily installed in trees – I will post a blog on this as soon as I can get the chance.

Friday was the “game-changer” as advertised with falling temps (still occurring early this Saturday morning into the low 20s). We have clearing skies this morning with s few light cirrus clouds scattered about. The freeze warning came to fruition, and we won’t have any more of them now this season. Saturday will also have sun with a few scattered clouds around, remaining cold with highs around 40° and lows in the upper 20s. Moderating a bit on Sunday under sunny skies and a few more scattered clouds once again, with highs in the upper-mid 40s and lows in the mid 30s. Monday should see similar skies and continued slightly moderating temps up to around 50° and lows in the mid 30s. Tuesday should continue this sky condition and temperature pattern, moderating into the low 50s and lows around freezing.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 0718 radar shows no organized area of precipitation in the Eastern US at this time.

As of 0718, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows :

Station Relative Location Temp RH DP    BP   Wind High/Low temp Friday
VP2            Ground         23.0  62  12 30.67R NA    45.9/28.4

There was no rain in my cocorahs gauge on Friday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony also recorded no rain through midnight obs on Friday.

November precipitation is now 1.78″.

Year-to-date precipitation total is now 38.19″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 23 54 9 30.57S NNW 1 G NNW 8
                           140° from station                       45/27

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain through midnight on Friday. It apparently is still clogged and not working properly. However, interestingly enough on my Lakewood CC WX Bug phone app, I noticed this morning once again that they are now reporting a total of 1.78″ of rain so far this month for a gain of 0.03″ since yesterday, as estimated by radar. Must be catching up as it didn’t rain Friday.

Temp from the VP2 at 2400 was 28.4 RH 55% BP 30.59R DP 14.3. Clear, cold and dry at midnight.

Good morning from the clear, cold and dry Walrus early on this Saturday.
