A cloudy, cold, dry update for West Rockville Maryland for Wednesday November 8 2017

Wednesday cooled down a bit more, remaining cloudy all day but without any rain. From the upper 30s in the early AM we only rose to the mid 40s in the afternoon, then down to the low 40s by midnight under cold, relatively stable conditions all day. Today’s featured image highlights the cloudy sky as darkness descended late this afternoon about 1725. Cloudy skies have persisted overnight with a bit of occasional light rain the past hour or so (0.02″ in the VP2). Dew points dropped from the low 40s down to the mid 30s. At 0849 we have cloudy skies with light fog and occasional drips of rain/drizzle. Temperatures are in the low 40s with dew points in the low 40s. The Wednesday minimum temperature from the VP2 (38.0°) was recorded at 0421 while the maximum temperature (46.5°) was recorded at 1410. Dew point temps ranged from 41° down to 36°. Relative humidity values remained high today similar to yesterday’s values (95% – 79%). Barometric values actually rose today, ranging from a low of 30.18″ at 0047 up to 30.29″ 10 hours later at 1047.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444. I am also now on weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time.

I got up to a call from my daughter Tracy finally on the way to work as she returns to the grind after a brief hiatus out in Las Vegas along with a brief call from Ray before getting out of bed. I took a shower and took a few camera shots of the cloud deck and the waning fall colors in the local trees out my balcony window before it got dark (see featured image for one of these pictures). I had more discussions with Ray dealing with his cocorahs records, then a longer conversation with Marty about an online weather station out in the western Maryland mountains, and a variety of other interesting topics. He liked my October data summary I compiled yesterday out of my monthly output stored in Weather Underground. He wants me to show him how to construct that.

Thursday it should warm up a tad, into the low 50s for highs and lows in the low 30s under cloudy skies. Friday we should see full sun but with the coldest temperatures of the season, highs only in the upper 30s and our first freeze of the season that night with lows in the low 20s. Saturday will also have sun with some scattered clouds, remaining cold with highs around 40° and lows in the mid-upper 20s. Moderating a bit on Sunday under scattered clouds once again, with highs in the mid to upper 40s and lows in the mid 30s.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 0849 radar shows rain showers just to our south over much of southern and central VA and southern MD, but with a few renegade pockets of precipitation in our area scattered about. Much more rain is in the Dixie further south, all headed ENE and mostly staying away from our immediate area for now, and will be steered away permanently from the big arctic blast of air on Friday and Saturday.

As of 0849, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows :

Station Relative Location Temp RH DP    BP     Wind   High/Low temp today
VP2            Ground          43.1 95  42 30.22S   NA      46.5/38.0

There was no rain in my cocorahs gauge on Wednesday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony also recorded no rain through midnight obs on Wednesday, but so far has accumulated a total of 0.02″ of rain since midnight.

November precipitation is now 1.72″.

Year-to-date precipitation total is now 38.13″

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain through midnight on Wednesday. It apparently is still clogged and not working properly. However, interestingly enough on my Lakewood CC WX Bug phone app, I noticed today that they are now reporting a total of 1.73″ of rain so far this month, as estimated by radar. That really is uncanny in that it is within 0.01″ of my total so far this month. Wonder if they used my data to help them estimate their total monthly precipitation??

Temp from the VP2 at 2400 was 42.6 RH 84% BP 30.24F DP 38.1. Cloudy but dry at midnight.

Good morning from the cloudy, cool, somewhat currently dry Walrus early on this Thursday.
