A mostly sunny, cooler, less humid, pleasant weather update for West Rockville Maryland for Thursday September 28 2017
Thursday was a big transition day, from summer to fall. It was mostly sunny, with steady then dropping temps later on, dropping dew points, and rising barometric pressure as a “dry” front passed through the area. Temperatures rose from the low 70s into the mid 70s midday then dropped later in the day with Thursday’s low temps being recorded tonight right at midnight obs into the mid 60s. Dew points dropped all day from the mid 60s to the upper 40s. Now at 0736 we have clear skies and temperatures down into the low 50s with dew points around 50°. The Thursday minimum temperature from the VP2 in the shelter on the ground below my balcony (64.3°) was recorded at 2359 while the maximum temperature (75.9°) was recorded at 1646. Dew point temps ranged from 66° (early) down to 49° (late). Relative humidity values were lower today (85% – 40%). Barometric values rose today, ranging from 29.76″ at 0022 up to 30.02″ at 2340.
Remember now you can get the ground-based VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 On Tuesday I progressed to another source of my real-time data – weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data came online about noontime on Tuesday.
I was up by mid-afternoon to answer a few phone calls. I took a much-needed shower and got ready for the early evening trivia game. I had late breakfast of cereal, a banana and coffee. I talked with Ray, mostly about football as our weather has finally broken. Dinner was a delicious portabella mushroom burger with hot pepper cheese, pickles and chipotle mayo, along with sides of macaroni, orzo and potato salads. I had some yummy chocolate chip cookies for dessert later. I also caught up some on my email and facebook messaging later during the evening while watching the Thursday night football game, won by the Packers 35-14 over the Bears. The game was delayed 47 minutes at the end of the first quarter due to lightning in a brief thunderstorm. Some night lightning spikes caught on camera over the stadium at one point. I had spicy low-sodium V8 juice right around dinner time and plenty of water and vitamins throughout the evening.
We now have clear skies with temperatures in the comfortable low 50s at 0736 Friday. Friday should be beautiful, with sunny skies with highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 50s. A reinforcing shot of cool air will work its way into the area overnight Friday into the weekend as we transition from September into October with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the upper 40s
on Saturday and Sunday and mostly sunny skies. Monday will warm up a bit, with highs in the mid 70s and lows around 50° under sunny skies. Dry and pleasant on Tuesday with similar temps, no sign at all of any rain at this point.
On Weatherbug at 0736 the radar is showing showers from the reinforcing cold front well to the north, moving from parts of Michigan into parts of Ontario. These showers appear to be moving mostly easterly, and will remain well north of our area on Friday and early Saturday.
