A partly sunny, humid, warm, and somewhat wet weather update for West Rockville Maryland for Thursday August 3 2017

Thursday brought with it similar conditions to yesterday – partly cloudy, warm, humid skies with a light thundershower in the mid-afternoon (0.06″). Once again stronger storms once again fired up by late afternoon in the region, with a lot of power outages particularly in parts of nearby Virginia. Now at 0351 we have clear skies and warm temperatures around 70°, with dew points in the upper 60s to around 70°. The Thursday minimum temperature from the VP2 in the shelter on the ground nearby (69.3°) was recorded at 0617 while the maximum temperature (87.5°) was recorded at 1455. Dew point temps were about the same as yesterday, ranging from 67° up to 75°. Relative humidity values were also roughly the same as yesterday (92% – 58%).  Barometric values raised a bit today, ranging from 30.12″ at 1037 to 30.01″ at 1709.
Remember now you can get the new ground-based VP2 data on Weatherlink.  You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I got up and going by mid-afternoon, taking a needed shower then having a late brunch of cereal, banana, and hazelnut cream coffee. After some cleaning up and email, I went over to Building A for the weekly trivia game from 1830 to 1930. By this time I realized I had a big problem with my phones. My house landline phone stopped working totally, with every effort to resussitate failing to get it going again. My cell phone number was working fine except that it would not charge, either from the computer hookup or the direct 120V wall hookup. It just kept losing charge even when plugged in! . It got down to 1 % and then it finally shut down. Giving it a rest shut down completely worked – I left it plugged in and turning it back on later resulted in the charge increasing dramatically to 80%!  Still something is wrong, as it is losing charge faster than normal – perhaps the internal battery has worn out – I do know they will eventually do that, despite keeping them charged all the time.  The only way I have been communicating is through the computer on FACEBOOK chat, save for a brief call to Ray and two longer calls to Marty. I ate the leftover salmon and rice a roni for dinner, still delicious, along with more macaroni and potato salad. I also had a few marinated mushrooms and some prune and V8 juices. I also drank lots of water from my ginormous water bottle throughout the evening and early morning hours.

We now have clear, dry skies and warm temperatures around 70° at 0351. Partly cloudy conditions should be the norm for the rest of the week into the weekend, with highs around 90° on Friday and lows in the upper 60s. Chances for rain look to be only of the isolated/scattered variety with a 20 POP, but the past two days had similar forecasts and storms/showers did indeed develop by the late afternoon. On Friday the storms may actually come in later along with a cold frontal passage in the evening.  Saturday and Sunday should cool off with sunny skies, only scattered clouds, a 0 POP for rain and highs around 80° and lows in the 60° to 65° range. Monday looks cloudy and stormy, with a 90 POP for showers/storms, and high temps in the upper 70s and lows in the mid 60s.

On Channel 4 radar at 0407, we are basically clear in the 4 state mid-Atlantic region save for a few isolated showers in eastern PA and southern NJ at this time.

As of 0407 EDT, the data from the VP2 is coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony and the Radio Shack thermometer is temporarily not working for some unknown reason (on the balcony – max temps especially read too high).  The data from the Lakewood Country Club WXBug station and the USG VP2 station across the street are as follows :

There was 0.06″ of rain recorded today (cocorahs gauge on ground below – in between the US and State Flagpoles out a bit from my balcony)

July precipitation finished out at 9.36″.

There was no rain recorded in the USG gauge on Thursday. I don’t know why it missed the rain I got in my cocorahs gauge.
