RAIN RAIN RAIN!!! – A cloudy, very wet, cool, flooding weather update for West Rockville Maryland for Friday July 28 2017
Friday was a cloudy, cool, very wet day with widespread flooding in the area (many flash flood warnings issued by NWS throughout the day), though I didn’t observe any flooding in my limited travels around Gaithersburg and Rockville in the afternoon. Now at 0418 we have cloudy skies and pleasantly cool temperatures in the mid-upper 60s, with damp dew points in the mid 60s. The Friday minimum temperature from the VP2 in the shelter on the ground nearby (69.8°) was recorded at 2301 while the maximum temperature (77.2°) was recorded at 0936. Dew point temps were about the same as yesterday, ranging from 74° to 69°. Relative humidity values rose today with all the rain (98% – 87%). Barometric values dropped more today, ranging from 29.84″ at 0013 to 29.69″ at 1847.
We now have cloudy skies, apparently dry for the moment, and pleasantly cool with temperatures in the mid 60s at 0418. It is finally my 67th birthday on Saturday and looks to be wonderfully cool once again, with highs in the low 70s with a 40 POP for continued rain under mostly cloudy skies with lows in the upper 50s Saturday night. Sunny and drier conditions should return on Sunday and Monday, with highs in the 80° to 85° range and lows in the low 60s.
On Channel 4 radar at 0418, rain appears to be revolving around the LOW pressure, currently over us and western VA, with the bulk of the rain falling out in WV, PA, sections of VA south of Washington DC towards Norfolk and the eastern shore of MD and DE at this time.
As of 0418 EDT, the data from the VP2 is now coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony and the Taylor has been replaced with the Radio Shack thermometer for the time being (on the balcony – max temps especially read too high). The data from the Lakewood Country Club WXBug station and the USG VP2 station across the street are as follows :

Year-to-date (YTD) precipitation total is 26.37″
VP2 Across the street (USG) 68.4 97 68 29.70F NA 77.9/70.2
There was 1.67″ of rain recorded in the USG gauge on Friday. The max rain rate recorded at the USG gauge was 1.22″/hr @ 1047. The data from USG appears to be seriously underreporting today, along with a lower max rain rate than expected.
