A foggy early AM, then sunny and warmer following, brief gusty wind intense thundershowery weather update for West Rockville Maryland on Wednesday May 31, 2017

Wednesday finished out May and started with fog as it has the previous 3 days along with low clouds. Partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures with highs in the low 80s followed, then a very brief but intense light thundershower (gusty winds particularly – I caught winds gusting from the SW at 34 MPH sometime on Wednesday) in the early evening) (0.08″ – with 1.07″/hour max rain rate recorded at 1744) Clearing skies thereafter, cooling off into the late evening and overnight with temps falling through the 60s. At about 0430 we have fair skies with temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60°.  The minimum temperature (64.0°) was recorded at 0628 and the maximum temperature (80.8°) was recorded at 1544. Dew point temperatures were about the same as yesterday, ranging from 67° to 56°. Relative humidity values lowered today after the usual humid early AM (93% – 44%). Barometric values stayed close again, ranging from 30.04” at 0013 to 29.93” at 1705.

I got up in the mid afternoon after a nice overnight sleep. I had to turn my phone off due to a connection problem that fixed itself later, but I missed a few calls from my daughter Tracy. I watched a good part of the Yankees/Orioles game (Yanks lost 10-4).  I had some prune juice a bit before dinner. I had a turkey pastrami sandwich on toasted rye, with pickles, mayo, cheese, and mustard along with a good serving of broccoli florets, steamed in the microwave.  I caught up on the rest of my email and worked on the newly “hatched” Weatherquack weather website which should be fun in the coming months.  I had some peanuts for snacks at other times during the evening. With the rain today I went out to the gauge, dropping off a few plastic recyclables on the way out and picking up my daily mail on the way back. I also drank a good part of my ginormous water bottle throughout the evening and early morning hours.

We now have fair skies with temperatures in the very low 60s at about 0445. Thursday looks to be sunny and warm with highs around 80° and lows in the mid 50s. as we start the month of June. Friday looks partly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the mid 50s. Saturday looks to be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s, then on Sunday cloudy with an 80 POP for showers/storms and highs in the upper 70s and lows in the mid 60s.

According to Channel 4 radar, the radar is generally pretty clear in the region, with only a few light, widely scattered isolated cells in nearby PA and WV.
