Temperatures were generally mild, particularly with minimum values during the month. Precipitation was about normal, snowfall well below normal unfortunately. Brief January 2020 precipitation summary for my West Rockville MD cocorahs station MD-MG-115 included 3.02″ of liquid precipitation and 1.6″ of snow . 12 days of generally small amounts of measurable precipitation occurred during the month.  My wettest day was 1.37″ on Jan 25 and my only measurable snowfall was 1.6″ of snow that fell early on Jan 7. December 2019 was warmer and a bit wetter than normal. My maximum temperature average (45.9°) was 0.7° above normal but my minimum temperature average (33.0°) was much more significantly above normal (+ 4.8°), resulting in the mean temperature average of 39.4° to be 2.7° above normal. My total precipitation of 3.26″ was 0.16” above the normal December value for my station of 3.10”. Mild, partly sunny, occasional morning foggy weather dominated the Christmas scene this year with no snow close at all to our area.  Tuesday, Christmas Eve   High temps reached the 50 mark after early morning lows right at the freezing mark. Persistent seasonable cold continued for Saturday, along with mostly sunny skies most of the day with high clouds at times from the big rainstorm well to my south. Our stay below freezing only lasted one day, as Friday’s max temps reached into the upper mid 30s after lows in the low 20s in the early AM under sunny, calm, dry skies. A cold few days during this 2-day pre-Christmas period was highlighted by my first sub-freezing max temp day on Thursday. Wednesday was a transition day, drying out under strong NW winds at times. Overnight early Tuesday morning persisted with Monday’s cloudy, chilly, damp conditions with dense fog developing towards sunrise. Rain was light, with a lot of drizzle accompanying the fog. Gradually after mid-day the cloud cover began to lift, and breezes picked up as the cold front rushed in, and whisked the fog and dampness away throughout the afternoon.  Temps held in the 30s all day, however, always above freezing so there were no issues of icy streets and the little bit…
