A cloudy, still wet but winding down day with some flooding still occurring in spots in the area, cooler update from West Rockville, Maryland for Sunday, December 16, 2018

Sunday was a cloudy, cooler, still somewhat wet day (0.21″ AM rain  and fog) with flooding still occurring in scattered, flood-prone spots in the region. Using the records from my old station, I had 3 years that were wetter than this year ( 68.35″ in 1996, 65.47″ in 1979, and 64.16″ in 2003). Whether this year can approach any of those figures is still a matter of conjecture, but we do have another wet period coming late this week that…

A cloudy, PM drizzly, light rainy, cool update from West Rockville, Maryland for Friday, December 14, 2018

Friday was a cloudy, cooler day with drizzle developing in the mid-afternoon, changing to light rain in the evening (0.29″), starting off our next 3 day wet period. High temps reached the mid 40s mark after another mild early AM min in the mid 30s. Of course our weekend rain system coming in for a few days will be the driving force for keeping our daily mins above the freezing mark, as happens oh so often during the winter around here….

A partly cloudy, dry, milder update from West Rockville, Maryland for Thursday, December 13, 2018

Thursday was a partly cloudy, milder day with clouds slowly on the increase in the PM, ahead of our rainy weekend. High temps almost reached the 50° mark after our first above freezing min since 12/4 (32.6°). Of course this rainy system coming in for a few days is the driving force for sending our mins rising over the freezing mark, as happens oh so often during the winter around here.   Temperatures slid back down after sunset a bit but…

A cloudy, cold, just miss snowstorm to the south update from West Rockville, Maryland for Sunday December 9 2018

A cloudy, cold, just miss snowstorm to the south update from West Rockville, Maryland for Sunday December 9 2018

Sunday was cloudy and cold all day here in Rockville. Less than 50 miles to my south measurable snow fell (1-3″) in central VA and southern MD. Today was the first day of the season with sub-freezing temperatures all day. So the cold air was there for a snowstorm, the moisture was blocked by the cold, dry air from advancing into our immediate area unfortunately. Temperatures did not vary much today, only ranging from the upper 20s in the early…
