Partly sunny, milder update for Sunday, March 24, 2019 at West Rockville Maryland

Partly sunny, milder update for Sunday, March 24, 2019 at West Rockville Maryland

There were a lot of exciting games on Sunday in the NCAA basketball tournament. The Sweet 16 has been finalized with the next game action not till next Thursday, with one of the regionals being held locally at the Verizon Center in Washington DC.  The weather looks to be nice for those traveling in from out of town for Thursday’s and Saturday’s action.  Sunday was partly sunny and milder, with high temps in the lower 60s after early AM lows…

5 day cool, wet, sometimes stormy conditions from Tuesday March 19 to Saturday, March 23, 2019 at West Rockville Maryland

My patterns have worsened and now I have a long 5 day report. There’s a lot of conflicting activities that take up way too much of my time. One is the NCAA basketball tournament which started earlier this week. The week was seasonably cool each day, highlighted by a big rainstorm all day on Thursday and a brief squall in the mid-afternoon on Friday. Normals now are highs in the mid 50s and lows in the low-mid 30s. We averaged…

Seems that I am establishing a new pattern of two-day reports of late. I will work on trying to get caught up and to report daily if at all possible. We took some steps back over these two days, with below normal temps and even a slight threat of snow late Sunday/early Monday, which unfortunately did not turn out to be. The big NCAA basketball tournament selections were made Sunday night, and the first games will start on Tuesday.   Sunday was…

Conditions were partly sunny and warm on Friday then mostly sunny and much cooler on Saturday.  This update is for March 15 and 16, 2019 at West Rockville Maryland

Still trying to get caught up, at least this update is covering only two days again and is in the traditional format. We are really getting into spring now, with low-mid 70s for highs on Thursday and Friday. The basketball tournaments are really into full swing now, and Sunday night the big dance invitations will all be laid out.  Friday was partly sunny and warm.  High temps reached the mid 70s by the mid-afternoon after only dropping into the upper…

Conditions were mostly sunny and milder PM on Wednesday after a frosty early AM, then partly cloudy and warmer on Thursday. This update is for March 13 and March 14, 2019 at West Rockville Maryland

Still trying to get caught up, at least this update is covering only two days and is more or less in the traditional format. We are speeding up the process of morphing into springlike conditions as we head into the mid-March period. It is also conference basketball tournament week. These events will help determine the seedings of many top teams into the Big Dance (NCAA tournament) whose invitations will be coming this Sunday evening.  Wednesday was mostly sunny and milder in…

First ten days of March – brief summary for now – sorry for the hiatus – West Rockville Maryland

I have been catching up on a lot of activities, some weather, most not, over the past several days. So sorry for my self-imposed hiatus. Just a brief note here to highlight the first 10 days of March, with some statistics and let you know I am all right here in Maryland. It has been a relatively cold and wet start to the month, with a total of 1.66″ of precipitation falling from March 1 through March 10, and 2.5″…

Partly cloudy, milder day, still dry update for Thursday, February 28, 2019 for West Rockville Maryland

Thursday was partly cloudy and milder , with high temps in the low 40s  with lows in the mid 30s. Clouds increased late in advance of our next system for Friday, which has already dumped over an inch of snow at the current time during the overnight period. There was a nice sunset that I happened to catch in the early evening hours as shown in today’s featured image. Is that a glory in the picture?  The maximum temperature was…

Mostly cloudy, colder day, dry update for Wednesday, February 27, 2019 for West Rockville Maryland

Mostly cloudy, colder day, dry update for Wednesday, February 27, 2019 for West Rockville Maryland

Wednesday was mostly cloudy and colder than expected, with high temps only in the mid 30s vs. forecasted high temps in the upper 40s. Clouds were held in place most all day with a gradually more moist easterly flow, which dammed up against the mountains to the west, causing the normally colder mountain areas to be actually warmer and much sunnier. An interesting contrast pattern for the day was the gradual increase in the humidity all day yet a contrasting…
