May 2020 was cooler and drier than normal. My maximum temperature average (69.9°) was 3.9° below normal but my minimum temperature average (53.1°) was still a bit above normal (+1.3°), resulting in the mean temperature average of 61.5° to be 1.3° below normal. My total precipitation of 2.22″ was 2 05” below the normal May value for my station of 4.27”. JUNE 12-20, 2020 – MILD, DRY FIRST HALF, HUMID, WET SECOND HALF  UPDATE FOR WEST ROCKVILLE MARYLAND

Our wetter patterns during the beginning of June resumed from the 17th-20th after a five day stretch of cool, cloudy, dry, rather pleasant weather conditions from the 13th-16th. 70s max temps prevailed on most days, with only 2 days reaching the 80s. Thunderstorms marked the afternoons of the 19th-20th. Our generally cooler and drier patterns of May transitioned into warmer and wetter conditions for the first third of June. 70s max temps began the month comfortably but abruptly changed to hot 90s on the third with big storms on the 4th and 5th, then a few comfortable low 80s days then heating up again into the upper 80s towards the end of the period with occasional rain showers. Our generally cooler than normal pattern persisted over the last third of the month, with a few notable warm 80s max interludes. We continued to also be drier than normal though we did have 5 measurable rainfall days for the 11 day period along with at least partially cloudy skies on 10 of the 11 days during the period. MONTHLY SUMMARY April 2020 was cooler and wetter than normal. My maximum temperature average (61.9°) was 3.4° below normal but my minimum temperature average (43.6°) was still a bit above normal (+0.7°), resulting in the mean temperature average of 52.8° to be 1.3° below normal. My total precipitation of 6.79″ was 3.50” above the normal March value for my station of 3.29”. Our continued cool pattern persisted over this second middle May period, but the rain stopped. We were totally dry for the 10 day period despite persistent cloudiness on most days. So we still have a total of 1.35 inches of rain in May and 15.89 inches for the year through May 20. Minimum temperatures at or below the freezing mark have headed elsewhere till the fall, though we did have one day with mins in the 30s (13th – 38.9°)….
