A partly to mostly sunny, comfortable and dry update for West Rockville Maryland for Saturday September 9 2017
Saturday was a partly to mostly sunny, pleasantly cool and dry day. We had another afternoon with pretty cumulus clouds dotting the sky. (See attached picture.) High temperatures only reached into the upper 60s with lows in the low 50s. Dew points were in the 50s and 40s all day. Now at 0734 we have clear skies with temperatures in the comfortable low 50s with dew points in the upper 40s. The Saturday minimum temperature from the VP2 in the shelter on the ground below my balcony (53.3°) was recorded at 0635 while the maximum temperature (68.6°) was recorded at 1529. Dew point temps dropped from yesterday, ranging from 54° down to 47°. Relative humidity values were roughly the same as yesterday (91% – 51%). Barometric values rose even more from yesterday’s values, ranging from 30.22″ at 0337 up to 30.35″ at 2307.

I rose in the early afternoon to see most of the college football game between my alma mater the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers and Florida Atlantic University. The Badgers won handily 31-14 to get my day started off well. I tried to watch it on my phone but that stopped working soon after I got it all hooke2peppered turkey breakfast sausage cooked up with a few eggs, mushrooms, cheese on a fresh everything bagel. I spoke with Ray and Tracy in the late afternoon/early evening, and later with Marty for a good while, then face time with Robin and Gideon once again in his bathtub playground. I had half of the marinated skirt steak grilled on the foreman, along with some orzo and potato salads and a bit of kimchee. Later on had some new flavored Triscuits with hot pepper cheese and a few cashews. I downloaded several weather observer forms off of the internet, and printed them out for future use. I had some prune and spicy low-sodium V8 juices right around dinner time, and plenty of water and vitamins throughout the evening.
We now have clear skies with temperatures in the low 50s at 0734 Sunday. Sunday and Monday should be mostly sunny with only a few scattered clouds at times, highs in the low-mid 70s and lows in the low-mid 50s. The remnant rains of Irma should be skirting west of our area on Tuesday and Wednesday but still we should have high temps in the low-mid 70s under cloudy, rainy (40 POP on Tuesday and 70 POP on Wednesday) skies. Lows should be in the low 60s. Right now Irma will be heading up the west (Gulf of Mexico) side of FL with catastrophic storm surge, hurricane force winds, torrential rains and possible spin-up tornadoes in the heavier rain band areas. From Florida Irma will move inland/ northward into Georgia and weaken to Tropical Storm status and then into the Tennessee valley thereafter. So Irma’s affects on our immediate area should be minor and non-damaging at best. Still though stay tuned for updates.
On Weatherbug at 0734 the radar is clear in most of the Eastern United States save for the rains from Irma over much of Florida, stretching a bit into extreme southern SC, GA and AL at this time.
