A partly to mostly cloudy, threatening at times but remaining dry, and gradually cooler and drier late weather update for West Rockville Maryland for Saturday August 19 2017

Saturday was partly to mostly cloudy, not as hot, humid early but increasingly drier with clearing skies late. No rain fell today though storms hit just to my north in the Frederick area around 1900 and far to my SE over Calvert County around 2300. Now at 0748 we have clear skies with temps in the upper 60s with drier dew point temperatures in the low 60s. The Saturday minimum temperature from the VP2 in the shelter on the ground nearby (70.2°) was recorded at 2359 while the maximum temperature (85.7°) was recorded at 1552. Dew point temps finally lowered today, especially late, ranging from 75° down to 62°. Relative humidity values started to lower late (97% – 55%). Barometric values rose today, ranging from 29.84″ at 0430 to 29.98″ at 2215.

I recovered a bit today, but had my usual hermit-like existence all day, with just my usual trip to check mail and check my rain gauge. I got ready mid-afternoon for my Safeway grocery delivery just after 1600. I am getting really stocked up again, and had a bit of a challenge to find places for everything, particularly in my small freezer. I had a bowl of cereal and a banana with coffee just prior to the grocery delivery. I tracked the storms nearby during parts of the evening, and got some email and weather database work done. I had a late dinner of two toasted bagel sandwiches of seafood and crab salads on one bagel and more chicken breast, hot pepper cheese and huy fong sriracha sauce on the other. Also had a dollop of fancy potato salad I just got yesterday plus spicy V8 juice. I also spoke briefly with Tracy on our cell phones, and later with Robin via Face-Time with Gideon in the bathtub once again. I spoke at length with Marty and Ray later (after midnight) about a variety of weather topics and to a lesser degree with Ray on some musicians we like. I also managed to register for the GLOBE program, originating from NASA, to hopefully pass their training so I can submit my weather observations during the eclipse on Monday through the GLOBE system on my phone app. I did plenty of other email work, especially sending out a lot of storm and scenic Oregon photos to many others, and other miscellaneous activities. I had my usual water intake and vitamins and medicines that I take every day.

We now have clear/sunny skies, with temperatures in the upper 60s at 0748. Sunday looks to be sunny and warm, with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the upper 60s and virtually no chance for rain. Right now the outlook for Eclipse Monday appears to be a bit unsettled now, with highs in the mid 80s and a 40 POP for showers/storms under partly cloudy skies. Lows should be in the low 70s. Tuesday should be partly cloudy and hot, with highs in the low 90s and lows in the low 70s. More rain chances and cooler on Wednesday, ushering in a generally cooler period thereafter.

On Channel 4 radar at 0748 we are void of precipitation in the four state mid-Atlantic regions. Some light showers are falling on the NC Coast and out in the Atlantic and in parts of northern New England.
