Cloudy, colder, mixed snow, freezing rain and rainy update for Monday December 16, 2019 from West Rockville Maryland

Overnight early Monday morning began cloudy and colder, with light snow starting around 0200, getting briefly heavier for a few hours prior to sunrise when most of the day’s 1.1 inches fell, with precipitation gradually changing over to freezing rain/drizzle then just rain by the afternoon when temps gradually climbed up into the mid 30s from early morning lows around the freezing mark. At its heaviest the snow stuck to all surfaces including the roads and sidewalks and parking lots. but melted off quickly with the sunrise and the solar radiation that comes through despite the seemingly dense cloud cover. By the end of the day only traces of snow were found in my immediate vicinity, melting off also caused partially by the rain that fell.  Dew points rose from the mid 20s at midnight up to just above freezing 24 hours later around midnight observation time.

The maximum temperature was 37.2 degrees at 0013.

The minimum temperature was 32.6 degrees at 0552.

The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 24 degrees @ 0000 up to a high of 33 degrees @ 2357.

The relative humidity values ranged from a low of 60% @ 0000 up to a high of 95% @ 2315.

The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.31 inches @ 0853 down to a low of 30.11 inches @ 2315.

The highest daily peak wind gust recorded across the street on the roof of the new USG building was 13 MPH at 1242 from the E.

There was 0.38 inches of precipitation on Monday. My December monthly total precipitation is now 2.40 inches.

There was 1.1 inches of snow on Monday. Still a trace of snow on the ground at my midnight observation time. My seasonal total snowfall is now 1.4 inches. The year-to-date precipitation total is 45.51 inches.

My current downstairs station data is now showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called Gardens of Traville. Data is online, available in real-time as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is the usual one I post every day.

I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 and can be
found on the cocorahs website.

Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values on most days (when I have had rain that is) so should not be used except for general precipitation timing.

I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my official precipitation total each day.

Monday was a busy day. I listened to the Weather Buff show at noon, talked with my sister out in Michigan for about an hour, had a big bowl of oatmeal with coffee, then met with my lawyer and his father who is one of my college buddies for personal business with my lawyer and some catch-up social banter with ny college buddy for about an hour. Then between about 1745 and 1915 my sanitary engineer and her assistant cleaned up my apartment and unloaded some trash around the apartment, mostly from the trash cans.  Around 2200 I had 2 cheeseburgers on my foreman grill and some tater tots baked in the oven. I tried to watch the MNF game, won by the Saints easily 34-0, but a good part of the game the ESPN signal did not come in, and spent a bit of time on the phone with the Comcast Tech to resolve the viewing problem. Later on I had some mixed fruit for dessert.

Tuesday should be cloudy with occasional rain (so far 0.16 inches has fallen into my VP2 tipping bucket since midnight) with high temps in the mid 30s and lows in the lower 30s.

Wednesday should be mostly sunny and cold, with highs in the upper 30s and lows around 20.

Thursday should be sunny and colder, with most likely our first high temperature at or below the freezing mark, with lows in the low 20s.

Friday and Saturday look sunny to partly cloudy with a bit of moderating temperatures, highs in the upper 30s to around 40 and lows in the mid 20s. Sunday should moderate a bit more, under partly cloudy skies, with highs in the upper mid 40s and lows around 30.

At Midnight Monday, cloudy skies with a temperature of 34.3 degrees, relative humidity 95%, pressure rising at 30.13 inches with a dew point temperature of 33 degrees.
