Partly sunny, milder update for Sunday, March 24, 2019 at West Rockville Maryland

There were a lot of exciting games on Sunday in the NCAA basketball tournament. The Sweet 16 has been finalized with the next game action not till next Thursday, with one of the regionals being held locally at the Verizon Center in Washington DC.  The weather looks to be nice for those traveling in from out of town for Thursday’s and Saturday’s action.

Sunday was partly sunny and milder, with high temps in the lower 60s after early AM lows in the low 30s, right at the freezing mark.

The maximum temperature was 63.0° at 1637

The minimum temperature was 32.2° at 0650.

The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 19° @ 0201 up to a high of 34° @ 2355.

The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 68% @ 0440 down to a low of 19% @ 1545

The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.33″ @ 0825 down to a low of 30.07″ @ 2352.

Sunday had no precipitation. My March monthly total is still 4.65″ with my year-to-date total at 11.67″.

No snow/sleet fell on Sunday. My March total snowfall is 2.5″ with the seasonal total at 26.8″

My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time now as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200

I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/

Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values at times so should not be used except for general precipitation timing. For example during our big snowstorm back in mid-January the snow didn’t melt at all during the storm, and only started to record precipitation amounts a few days later when the sun and above freezing temperatures started to melt the snow.

I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day. I also use a snow stake outside my balcony window to get an idea on how much snow has fallen (while it is snowing) and how much snow is on the ground.

Cloudy and mild with light rain showers on Monday, with milder lows in the mid 40s, rising to the upper 50s in the afternoon, then dropping into the 30s by midnight, and to around freezing during the overnight into Tuesday. then warming up under the strong March sun with highs in the 60s. Monday’s rain looks to be the only rainy day of the week. Rainy skies from Thursday’s significant rain is our featured image of the day, which may be what it will look like later in the day on Monday.

Tuesday looks to be sunny, with the coolest temps of the week (around 50° for highs) with lows in the upper mid 20s.

A gradual warmup during the rest of the week with high temperatures heading up into the upper 60s by Friday under partly cloudy skies. Cloudy skies (but still no rain) on Saturday with temps rising into the 70s at first glance.

Midnight Sunday night found the temperature to be 51.7°, relative humidity 52%, pressure rising at 30.08″ and the dew point at 39.6° under a cloudy sky.

Currently at 0657 the temperature is 46.8° under cloudy skies, relative humidity at 66%, barometric pressure steady at 30.04″, and the dew point at 36°.

Good early morning from the snowless walrus on this cloudy Monday.
