Still trying to get caught up, at least this update is covering only two days again and is in the traditional format. We are really getting into spring now, with low-mid 70s for highs on Thursday and Friday. The basketball tournaments are really into full swing now, and Sunday night the big dance invitations will all be laid out.

Friday was partly sunny and warm.  High temps reached the mid 70s by the mid-afternoon after only dropping into the upper 50s in the early AM. A strong, dry cold front blew through in the late evening, with the humid dew points in the low 60s dropping in about an hour into the upper 30s accompanied by some brief strong winds. The min temperature for the day was set right at midnight observation time (mid 50s). There were convective showers out to the NW but dried up as they entered the DC area.

The maximum temperature was 75.6° at 1625.

The minimum temperature was 55.9° at 2359.

The dew point temperatures ranged from a high of 62° @ 1530 down to a low of 36° @ 2356.

The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 77% @ 0745 down to a low of 34% @ 2055.

The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 29.94″ @ 0015 down to a low of 29.68″ @ 1630.

Friday had no precipitation. My March monthly total is 2.07″ with my year-to-date total at 9.09″.

No snow/sleet fell on Friday. My March total snowfall is 2.5″ with the seasonal total at 26.8″.

Saturday was mostly sunny, breezy at times, and much cooler. High temps were recorded at midnight at the beginning of the observation day in the mid 50s, then dropped most of the day to our daily low set 24 hours later at midnight. I spent a good part of the day watching college basketball conference tournament action.

The maximum temperature was 55.9° at 0000.

The minimum temperature was 40.1° at 2359.

The dew point temperatures ranged from a high of 36° @ 0000 down to a low of 22° @ 1734.

The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 61% @ 0255 down to a low of 35% @ 1453.

The barometric pressure ranged from a low of 29.89″ @ 0000 up to a high of 30.25″ @ 2359.

My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time now as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200

I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/

Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values at times so should not be used except for general precipitation timing. For example during our big snowstorm back in mid-January the snow didn’t melt at all during the storm, and only started to record precipitation amounts a few days later when the sun and above freezing temperatures started to melt the snow.

I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day. I also use a snow stake outside my balcony window to get an idea on how much snow has fallen (while it is snowing) and how much snow is on the ground.

Sunday should be partly cloudy and cool, with highs around 50° and lows around freezing with a slight chance for a snow shower late in the evening.

Monday should be mostly cloudy and cool, with highs around 50° and lows around 30°. There might be some light snow in the AM.

Tuesday should be partly cloudy and continued cool, with highs around 50° and lows around 30°.

The rest of the week should continue that pattern, with only a slight warmup (highs in the mid 50s, lows in the mid 30s) and partly to mostly sunny skies.

Midnight Saturday night found the temperature a  chilly 40.1°, relative humidity 51%, pressure rising at 30.25″ and the dew point at 23.4° under a clear sky.

Currently at 0622 the temperature is 35.2° under clear skies, relative humidity at 54%, barometric pressure rising at 30.27″, and the dew point at 20°.

Good early morning from the green walrus on this clear St Patrick’s Day Sunday.
