Mostly sunny, seasonable Wednesday and partly to mostly cloudy, milder Thursday with evening drizzle update for West Rockville, Maryland on December 26 and 27, 2018
The day after Christmas Wednesday (Boxing Day in Canada) was a beautifully sunny, seasonable day after a pretty chilly early morning. The temperatures ranged from the mid 20s early to the mid 40s by mid-afternoon, then dropped down to around freezing by midnight observation. I met up with a home nurse in my apartment in the morning for setting up future home care visits and an initial evaluation of my leg problems, then got together with my friends Rick and Marty at the Yard House for an enjoyable late Christmas lunch. See today’s featured image of me from the “Yard House”. The beer glass I am drinking from is a “half a yard”, 32 ounces full. This glass came via England many years ago when they made a “full yard” glass, and the restaurant had it on display at the front of the restaurant. They only serve beer in sizes up to “half a yard”.
The maximum temperature was 44.6° at 1541.
The minimum temperature was 25.8° at 0632.
Dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 23° @ 0125 up to a high of 32° @ 1410.
Relative humidity values ranged from a high of 90% @ 0720 down to a low of 60% @ 1315.
Barometric pressure ranged from a low of 30.44″ @ 0000 up to a high of 30.60″ @ 1005.
No rain or snow fell on Wednesday. December 2018 still has a total of 5.68″ of precipitation (liquid water equivalent). The year-to-date precipitation is still 64.40″.
Thursday was nice in the morning, with sunny skies and low temps in the upper 20s in the early AM, rising to the milder upper 40s by mid-afternoon, under increasingly cloudy skies. The evening temps fell off slightly into the low-mid 40s under cloudy, drizzly skies (0.01″). Heavier rain held off till after midnight so will be reported on Friday.
After a fun, small trivia game next door with 4 neighbor friends in the mid-late afternoon, I celebrated Christmas once again in the early-mid evening. This time I went to La Mexicana on Shady Grove Road, where my daughter Tracy bartends/serves drinks and Tex-Mexican food. Besides the food and Yeungling beer, I watched the Pinstripe Bowl from Yankee Stadium on ESPN, where my Badgers were playing the Miami Hurricanes. Wisconsin thoroughly dominated the action, winning 35-3 to make for a great evening of entertainment with Tracy and a few friends. My Uber driver friend Mike who took me there and also the return home, and my daughter Tracy helped form the photo below, shot at the bar:
The maximum temperature was 49.4° at 1457.
The minimum temperature was 29.3° at 0723.

My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time now as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/
Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket is producing erratic values so should not be used save for general precipitation timing. For example recently the bucket recorded 5.62″ for the day, clearly a significantly higher amount when compared to my 4 inch gauge total that day (3.24″). I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Friday will be cloudy, rainy and milder, with highs in the mid 50s and lows in the mid 40s.
Saturday looks to be mostly sunny and mild with highs in around 50° and lows in the low 30s.
Sunday looks to cool off a bit with more clouds than sun, with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 30s.
New Year’s Eve Monday looks cloudy/rainy with temps in the mid 40s to close out the year in typical wet style we have had much of 2018.
Thursday’s midnight observations included a temperature of 41.7°, relative humidity 93%, barometric pressure 30.34″ and falling, with a dew point of 39.8° under cloudy, drizzly skies.
Currently at 0716 the temperature is 44.3°, dew point temperature 43°, relative humidity 96%, and the barometric pressure at 30.13″ and falling under cloudy/rainy skies.During the overnight, temperatures rose a bit into the mid 40s under cloudy, rainy skies. It appears preliminarily that close to an inch of rain has fallen since midnight – no exact, accurate reading available at this time. A final figure will be in tomorrow’s report.
Good morning from the Walrus on this cloudy, rainy Friday. Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!!!
