A mostly to partly cloudy, dry, a bit milder update from West Rockville, Maryland for Wednesday, December 12, 2018

Wednesday was milder in the PM after one more sub-freezing early AM that probably won’t happen again for a few days due to clouds and rain coming. Temperatures starting out in the upper 20s in the very early AM, then rose into the lower mid 40s by mid-afternoon under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures slid back down after sunset a bit but stayed above freezing in the mid-upper 30s. by observation time, extending through the overnight.

I laid low on Wednesday, propping my leg up as much as I could and resting. I made contact with a compression sock specialist so I could get fitted for a pair or two of compression hosiery for my legs.

The maximum temperature was 43.3° at 1354.

The minimum temperature was 29.5° at 0330.

Dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 22° @ 0000 up to a high of 29° @ 2359.

Relative humidity values ranged from a high of 76% @ 0733 down to a low of 52% @ 1357.

Barometric pressure ranged from a low of 30.08″ @ 0104 up to a high of 30.25″ @ 0936.

No rain or snow fell on Wednesday. December 2018 still has a total of 0.44″ of precipitation (liquid water equivalent) . The year-to-date precipitation is still 59.25″. Those amounts should start changing on Friday and continue to change through the weekend. The QPF (Quantative Precipitation Forecast) for my location is well over an inch of rain for this three day period. Unfortunately snow is not in the future forecasts for the foreseeable future.

For now, I am working on a better link to get my VP2 data on Weatherlink. I migrated over to Weatherlink 2.0 and my data isn’t so easy to find securely. Weather Underground should be used. My data is posted there every 5-10 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200

I contribute daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/

Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket is producing erratic values when compared with my 4 inch gauge. I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

Thursday looks to have AM clouds and PM sun, with high temps in the mid 40s and lows around the freezing mark.

Friday looks cloudy and cool, with a 100 POP for PM rain, temps holding in the low-mid 40s all day.

On Saturday we have an 80 POP for rain with highs around 50° and lows in the lower 40s. They finally have taken the possibility of thunderstorms out of the forecast. Thunderstorms are quite rare in this area at this time of year.

Sunday rain continues (70 POP) and a bit cooler, with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 30s.

Monday should turn mostly sunny with high temps in the upper 40s and lows around 30°.

Wednesday’s midnight observations included a temperature of 37.2°, relative humidity 72%, barometric pressure 30.19″ and falling, and a dew point of 29.1° under partly cloudy skies.

Currently at 0635 the temperature is 37.8°, dew point temperature 30°, relative humidity 74%, and barometric pressure at 30.26″ and rising under mostly cloudy skies. During the overnight, temperatures held in the upper-mid 30s under cloudy skies.

Good morning from the Walrus early on this Thursday.
