A clear, cold early AM, clouds slowly on the increase the rest of the day, colder update from West Rockville, Maryland for Saturday, December 8 2018
Saturday started out cold and clear, with a min of 22.1° that was my coldest temperature so far this fall/winter season. Temperatures remained cold all day, with a slow increase in clouds in the PM, when my mid 30s max temperature was reached. Temperatures then dropped off in the evening hours to around 30° by midnight observation time.
The maximum temperature was 34.9° at 1449.
The minimum temperature was 22.1° at 0602.
Dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 18° @ 0326 up to a high of 22° @ 0924.
Relative humidity values ranged from a high of 85% @ 0622 down to a low of 51% @ 1432.
Barometric pressure ranged from a low of 30.48″ @ 0000 up to a high of 30.61″ @ 1109.
No rain or snow fell on Saturday. December 2018 still has a total of 0.44″ of precipitation (liquid water equivalent) . The year-to-date precipitation is still 59.25″.
For now, I am working on a better link to get my VP2 data on Weatherlink. I migrated over to Weatherlink 2.0 and my data isn’t so easy to find securely. Weather Underground should be used. My data is posted there every 5-10 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/
Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket is producing erratic values when compared with my 4 inch gauge. I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Sunday will be cloudy and colder, highs in the mid 30s with lows in the mid 20s. It looks like the big storm just to our south will stay that way and we miss out on snow (0 POP Sunday during the day). If we get any snow, it will just be light snow flurries during the afternoon into the evening. 1-3″ of snow is being predicted for area just south of DC in the Fredericksburg VA and Charles and St Marys Counties in Maryland where winter weather advisories have been posted. Richmond VA, further to the south, could see around 6″ out of this storm.
Monday should be sunny and not quite as cold with highs in the low 40s and lows in the low-mid 20s.
Tuesday should be sunny and a tad warmer with highs around 40° and lows in the mid 20s.
Wednesday looks to be partly cloudy and seasonably cold, with highs in the low 40s and lows in the mid-upper 20s.
Thursday looks a bit colder and cloudy, with high temps in the upper 30s and lows in the mid 30s but only a 10 POP.
Saturday’s midnight observations included a temperature of 30.5°, relative humidity 63%, barometric pressure 30.48″ and steady, and a dew point of 19.4° under partly cloudy skies.
Currently at 0935 the temperature is 29.5°, dew point temperature 20°, relative humidity 68%, and barometric pressure at 30.47″ and falling under cloudy skies. During the overnight, temperatures dropped a bit into the upper 20s under mostly cloudy skies.
Good morning from the Walrus on this Sunday.
