A partly cloudy to cloudy, warmer, humid weather late afternoon wet and stormy then cooler evening update for West Rockville Maryland for Tuesday September 5 2017
Tuesday was a partly cloudy, warmer, more humid day with serious cloud buildups by late afternoon (see featured image for this post) that developed quickly into soaking thundershowers from about 1730 to 1930 (0.89″ total – max VP2 rain rate 6.55″/hour @ 1831). There was plenty of thunder and cloud to cloud and cloud to ground lightning in our severe thunderstorm warned area. The high temperature for the day reached the mid 80s before dropping to the upper 60s in the evening due to the cooling convective activity. We had warmer lows in the early AM (mid 60s), dew points were in the low-mid 60s to low-mid 70s. Now at 0530 we have cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper-mid 60s with dew points about the same. The Tuesday minimum temperature from the VP2 in the shelter on the ground below my balcony (65.0°) was recorded at 0658 while the maximum temperature (84.2°) was recorded at 1413. Dew point temps rose today, ranging from 63° up to 73°. Relative humidity values were a bit higher than yesterday (97% – 57%). Barometric values dropped from yesterday’s values, ranging from 29.85″ at 0000 down to 29.72″ at 1516.

I rose in the late morning hours to find out my presence wasn’t needed at the hearing today, which I was relieved about especially since nothing was decided since the judge had not read the case totally yet and another hearing had to be scheduled for later in the month. I called my physical therapist and set up a rescheduled session in the late afternoon, which as it turned out was just prior to our thunderstorm action so Rita made it to her car without getting soaked. I cancelled my Uber driver Mike’s pickup for the hearing, as both of us were quite relieved. I went back to sleep for a while after making all these arrangements/changes. I watched some baseball action (Yankees lost a tough one to the Orioles 7-6 on a 2 run HR in the bottom of the ninth inning). I also watched some of the Tuesday Night wrestling show. I got some further email correspondence done, including an interesting Maryland Climate question. Watched for updates on the most impressive CAT 5 185 MPH wind, 916 MB Hurricane Irma spinning down in the Caribbean approaching the Lesser Antilles. But where will it go? No one knows past Saturday when it should be between Cuba and South Florida. I had a nice dinner of grilled portabella mushrooms and cheese (I got the foreman griller working again – I used a different kitchen outlet and that was the issue – must get maintenance to look at the plug that apparently has gone bad, or else I don’t know how to reset the ground fault interrupter.) I also had a big salad of lots of goodies, though that might have been the cause of my later bathroom problems I think. Later on I had a few triscuits for a snack. I had some prune and spicy low-sodium V8 juices right around dinner time, and plenty of water and vitamins throughout the evening.
We now have cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid 60s at 0530 Wednesday. Wednesday we should have cooler temps with cloudy skies and highs in the mid 60s, lows in the lower-mid 50s with a 70 POP for rain. Thursday through Saturday should return sunny skies to the forecast with only a few scattered clouds at times, highs in the low 70s and lows in the mid 50s on Thursday and Friday and 70° and 50° for highs and lows on Saturday. If she does pay us a visit in some form Irma should not arrive till later next week. Stay tuned for updates.
On Weatherbug at 0531 the radar is showing most of our earlier convective activity over on the Eastern Shore and parts of Delaware, moving NE. Also more showers in much of PA and the mountains of WV and western MD, also moving NE. Only widely scattered areas of showers can be found in our immediate region, probably not effecting my location for at least a few hours.
As of 0531 EDT, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony), the Lakewood WXBug station and the USG VP2 station across the street are as follows :
