A partly cloudy, mostly dry, and warmer weather update for West Rockville Maryland for Thursday August 31 2017
Thursday wrapped up the month of August in a bit more typical summertime fashion. It was my first 80°+ max temp in 8 days, going back to the 23rd when I hit 81.7°. It was dry most of the day, until light showers (0.02″) fell around 2200 in conjunction with a FROPA coming down from the north. The high temperature for the day reached just above the 80° mark with dew points remaining in the 60s all day. Now at 0553 we have mostly cloudy skies with temperatures in the lower 60s with dew points in the mid 50s. The Thursday minimum temperature from the VP2 in the shelter on the ground nearby (62.5°) was recorded at 0437 while the maximum temperature (80.7°) was recorded at 1419. Dew point temps rose a bit today, ranging from 69° to 61°. Relative humidity values were about the same as yesterday (97% – 58%). Barometric values dropped a bit more today from yesterday, ranging from 30.02″ at 2346 down to 29.92″ at 1738.

I rose a bit earlier today as I had quite a busy day. I got a call from my lawyer and had to find and send some tax documents to him on email. I had most of them stored from previous scanning, but on some I had to scan some documents for the first time. I also was visited by a new Physical Therapist (Rita) who interviewed me and took down a lot of information from me, including all my prescription meds. There are some drug interaction problems that she has to discuss with my Dr before further processing of my therapy can be done. So my Friday therapy midday session hinges on successful resolution of these potential problems. I had some cereal, part of a really overripe banana and coffee for a late brunch. I spoke with Ray at length in the evening, along with Tracy on her way into work. briefly twice, once in the late morning and once in mid-afternoon. I had my weekly trivia game in Building A at 1830, which I barely made it to after some frantic scanning an processing of tax documents mentioned earlier. I watched part of the Ravens and Redskins preseason football games, along with the Indiana/Ohio State college football game. All a warmup for the Badgers first game of the season against Utah State Friday night at 2100 on ESPN.
Eventually I had my dinner mid-evening, leftover jambalaya from earlier in the week. I soaked up some of the salt in the leftovers with a quarter sliced raw potato, which I discarded after complete and slow reheating of the dish. I think it worked somewhat. I got some email out and incoming read, and checked out Facebook. Harvey has finally moved out of Texas and is marching slowly through other parts of the mid-south like AR, TN and KY, and headed this way for mostly on Saturday. I had some prune juice early and spicy low-sodium V8 in the later evening. I had my usual water intake and prescription medicines that I take every day. ( I ran out of my vitamins today, but more are on the way and should get them in the next day or so.
We now have mostly cloudy, dry skies with temperatures in the low 60s at 0553 Friday. We are cooling back down into the mid-upper 60s on Friday with lows in the mid 50s under partly cloudy skies as the remnants of Harvey slowly approach the area from the SW, as we now are in the month of September. On Saturday continued cooling with temps staying in the 60°-65° range with clouds and a 60 POP for rain as the Harvey remnants move through our area. I don’t think the rain will be particularly heavy or cause any flooding, but we still must stay aware of further developments/enhancements. On Sunday sun should return at least partially, with high temps in the upper 70s and lows around 60°. Labor Day Monday should warm up even more into the low-mid 80s, with lows in the lower 60s.
On Weatherbug radar at 0553 the radar is showing our upcoming rains from the Harvey remnants are mostly over Kentucky right now, with some action also in parts of TN, and entering into western WV at this time. Since midnight the temps have been dropping (both air and dew pt), winds have picked up, and pressure has been rising rapidly, sure signs that the front has passed through the area.
