OCTOBER 1-15, 2020 – TYPICAL EARLY FALL WEATHER TO START OCTOBER UPDATE FOR WEST ROCKVILLE MARYLAND

Pleasant autumn temperatures have arrived for this first half of October period, particularly 40s minimums. The rain has been a bit below normal but not terribly dry like in much of September with a total of 1.05″ falling during this period  Dew points have generally been in the comfortable 40s and 50s.

There were no thunderstorm days with 2 Sunny/ Clear days, 10 Partly Cloudy and 3 Cloudy days.

The minimum temperature for this period was 44.3° on the 4th. During this latest 15 day period the highest temperature reached was 81.6 degrees on the 7th. 1 day had a max in the 80s, 5 days had max temps in the 70s, with the remaining 9 days in the 60s. Only 1 days had mins in the 60s, with 8 days in the 50s and 6 in the 40s.

Only 5 of the 11 days in the period received measurable rain, mostly from the wet period on the 11th and 12th (0.87″ total ). The total for this fifteen day period was 1.05 inches which is our month-to-date total also. The year-to date total is now 42.47″.

The current temperature is 59.9 degrees at 0515 on October 16 under cloudy skies. The max temperatures looks to be holding in the 60s today with light showers developing and temperatures dropping later. The weekend looks sunny and cooler, with dry seasonal fall-like weather next week expected.
