JUNE 1-11, 2020 – BRIEF COOL, DRY START THEN WARM TO HOT CONDITIONS WITH SEVERAL DAYS OF STORMS AND RAIN THROUGH THE REST OF THE PERIOD UPDATE FOR WEST ROCKVILLE MARYLAND

Our generally cooler and drier patterns of May transitioned into warmer and wetter conditions for the first third of June. 70s max temps began the month comfortably but abruptly changed to hot 90s on the third with big storms on the 4th and 5th, then a few comfortable low 80s days then heating up again into the upper 80s towards the end of the period with occasional rain showers. We had only four measurable rainfall days during the 11 day period along with at least partially cloudy skies on 9 of the 11 days.

We have already had a total of 3.93 inches of rain in June and 20.69 inches for the year through June 11. The minimum temperature for this period was a chilly 49.4° on the 1st, probably the last sub 50° min till early fall. During this latest 11 day period the highest temperature reached was 92.6° on the 3rd. There were 2 sunny days during the period, with 5 partly and 4 cloudy days.

The 4 measurable rainfall days fell during the middle and end of the period. Dew points predictably peaked during the rainy mid-late days. Soil moisture remained at good levels for the start of the growing season, with local vegetation lush and green.

 

The current temperature is 63.4 degrees at 0545 on June 13 with clear skies. The temperature is on the rise today into the mid 80s with sunny skies, partly cloudy skies on Sunday and Monday with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s should provide two quite pleasant days.
