MAY 11-20, 2020 – RELATIVELY COOL, CLOUDY BUT VERY DRY THROUGH PERIOD EXCEPT FOR BRIEF VERY WARM MID-PERIOD UPDATE FOR WEST ROCKVILLE MARYLAND
Our continued cool pattern persisted over this second middle May period, but the rain stopped. We were totally dry for the 10 day period despite persistent cloudiness on most days. So we still have a total of 1.35 inches of rain in May and 15.89 inches for the year through May 20. Minimum temperatures at or below the freezing mark have headed elsewhere till the fall, though we did have one day with mins in the 30s (13th – 38.9°). During this latest 10 day period the highest temperature reached was 86.0 degrees on the 15th. There was only one truly totally sunny day during the period, with 5 partly and 4 cloudy days.
Daily precip, max/min temperature values, general sky condition, and Peak Wind Gust (PWG) for each day of the period include:

5/20 0.00 62.9 51.4 Cloudy, still cool, some filtered sun afternoon – 25 E
Remarkably there was no precipitation during the entire period, despite the preponderence of clouds on most o the days. Dew points were relatively low during most of the period, save for those 2 warm mid-period days when values rose into the 60s during parts of those days. Despite the dry period, fire danger remained low as soil moisture remained with the lower temperatures.
May weather looks to be getting warmer in the coming days, but still remaining basically dry save for today (Friday May 22). Vegetation is looking lush and green, and fully out.
The current temperature is 62.6 degrees at 0019 on May 22 with cloudy skies. The temperature should remain steady overnight with rain arriving sometime over the next few hours. Storms may be possible on Friday but most likely just scattered showers will fall around the region, then a dry period will ensue over the rest of the long Memorial Day weekend.
