Cloudy, rainy, mild AM, becoming sunny, warm, and somewhat humid update for Sunday, October 27 2019 from West Rockville Maryland
On Sunday, we had cloudy, mild and very wet conditions (1.17 inches total) during most of the morning with the heaviest rain falling around 1000, then it turned sunny, warm, and somewhat muggy in the afternoon , gradually turning cooler during the evening. The highs reached the mid 70s by mid-afternoon after lows in the upper 50s at the very beginning of the day before the rain came in, and also reaching that level by midnight observation time at the end of the day. Dew point temperatures soared through the upper 50s then through most of the 60s by mid morning, then gradually dropped off through the evening to the 50 degree mark by late evening.
The maximum temperature was 75.5 degrees at 1536.
The minimum temperature was 58.2 degrees at 0041.
The dew point temperatures ranged from a high of 67 degrees @ 0950 down to a low of 50 degrees @ 2352.
The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 96% @ 0708 down to a low of 50% @ 1610.
The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.12 inches @ 0000 down to a low of 29.79 inches @ 0824.
The highest daily wind recorded across the street on the roof of the new USG building was 36 MPH that was recorded at 1506 from the NW. Please remember that this anemometer is at a non-standard height of 60 feet above ground level (AGL), which can cause greater wind speeds than at the standard 33 feet AGL.
There was 1.17 inches of precipitation on Sunday so the October monthly total is now 4.16 inches. The year-to-date total is now 42.41 inches.
My current downstairs station data is now showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called Gardens of Traville. Data is online, available in real-time as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 and can be found on the web at https://www.cocorahs.org
Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values on most days (when I have had rain that is) so should not be used except for general precipitation timing.
I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my official precipitation total each day.
I had a lazy day on Sunday, once I finally got to bed in the mid-morning and slept most of the day away. I did watch the very wet beginning of the Downtown DC Marine Corps Marathon, with many distances covered based on age, experience, and athletic ability. Distances ranged from a 1 mile fun run for kids up to 30 miles for the very experienced ultra marathoners. I monitored some of the NFL football games at times through my phone while half asleep in bed, but did catch the end of the exciting 31-24 victory by the Packers over the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football (SNF) and also another loss in the World Series by the Nats, Houston winning 8-1. I grilled two hamburgers on the foreman for dinner, along with microwaving a vegetable medley headed up by riced cauliflower. I chatted with Robin and Gideon on face-time during the evening, and thankfully Gideon was feeling much better from his bout with bronchitis.
Monday has been sunny and mild so far, but cooler than yesterday, with highs rising into the mid-upper 60s and lows around 50 degrees.
Tuesday should be partly to mostly cloudy and seasonable with highs in the mid 60s and lows in the low 50s.
On Wednesday it should be cloudy and seasonably mild, with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the upper 50s.
On Thursday it looks to be cloudy and showery with highs in the low 70s and lows in the lower 50s.
Friday and Saturday should have slowly decreasing amounts of clouds through the period, mostly cloudy early on Friday morphing to scattered clouds by late Saturday, with highs in the mid 50s and lows in the mid 50s as we start off the month on a seasonable note.
At Midnight Sunday, I observed clear skies with a temperature of 58.7 degrees, relative humidity 75%, pressure rising at 30.03 inches with a dew point temperature of 51 degrees. Winds were averaging 4 MPH from the NNW.
Currently at 1249 early Monday afternoon the temperature is 63.7 degrees under sunny skies, relative humidity at 63%, barometric pressure steady at 30.22 inches, and the dew point temperature at 51 degrees. Winds are averaging 2 MPH over the past 10 minutes generally from the E. Peak wind gust since midnight has been 12 MPH from the N at 0025.
Good early afternoon from the walrus on this sunny, mild Monday. Today’s attached image shows more trees around the rain gauge and some of the color changes I took mid-morning Monday.
