Cloudy, cooler, damp with mid-day light rain to end the month slightly wet update for Monday, September 30, 2019 from West Rockville Maryland
September wound up atypically cooler, damp, and slightly wet (0.17 inches) on Monday. High temps in the low 70s very earl AM dropped into the mid 60s midday during the light and held there the rest of the day. Dew point temperatures did not change much all day staying in the low-mid 60s all day.
The maximum temperature was 71.7 degrees at 0004.
The minimum temperature was 65.8 degrees at 1147.
The dew point temperatures ranged from a high of 64 degrees @ 0000 down to a low of 62 degrees @ 0235.
The relative humidity values ranged from a low of 75% @ 0000 up to a high of 91% @ 1118.
The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.29 inches @ 1029 down to a low of 30.18 inches @ 1905.
There was 0.17 inches of precipitation on Monday in late morning-early afternoon light rain (approx 1030-1300) so the final monthly total is 0.59 inches. The year-to-date total is now 38.25 inches. Despite the rain we are still officially “abnormally dry” right now and very close to the moderate drought line.
My current online data is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called Gardens of Traville. Data is online, available in real-time as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
Unfortunately a recent development was found that is a discrepancy between my wxlink data and my VP2 display data. I noted this a week ago Friday when the low temperature came in as 50.2 degrees as I saw it in real time on my VP2 display, but on other sources tied in with wxlink I had a low of 52.8. Other variables also were a bit different. I don’t understand this discrepancy which I continue to notice in my records. I need to study close by VP2 stations in wunderground to see if I may be getting signal interference from another station all of a sudden. In a probably related development, I also continue to notice wind data for my station in wxlink (and therefore also in my weather underground data) a few days ago and has continued (And I have no working anemometer connected to my station).
In a further development from Thursday afternoon, Marty was over helping me out and noticed on his way home VP2 station equipment at the top of the new University of Shady Grove building across the street. We looked for it online but couldn’t find it, but it possibly is still transmitting its data that my station is picking up but not being published online yet except to infiltrate my records. After lunch (more details on that below) I saw this new station for myself from pretty close proximity. Pretty impressive but due to its 60 foot (approx) height off the ground temperatures and even rainfall will not be that accurate according to NWS specifications. More updates to follow.
I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 and can be found on the web at https://www.cocorahs.org
Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values on most days (when I have had rain that is) so should not be used except for general precipitation timing.
I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my official precipitation total each day. I haven’t been able to do this very much this month unfortunately since precious little rain (only on two measurable days all month through the 29th) has fallen from the sky.
Monday was go out to lunch day with Laura, and we went to Trapezaria for their Greek lunch buffet. It sure was yummy! Laura had a gyro and I had the buffet, full of great variety of several Greek specialties, including dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), patstitio (a flavorful pasta beef dish), eggplant parmigiana, squid with pasta, Greek meat loaf, a variety of chicken dishes, pork kebobs, greek green beans, sausage and peppers, cucumbers with taziki sauce, lemon drop soup (avagolomado), with rice pudding and baklava for dessert. It was really yummy and still nicely warm while eating it. I don’t like cold food unless it is supposed to be served cold. We even picked up some Oktoberfest beer on the way back to my apartment. I crashed thereafter and really didn’t eat anything else the rest of the day, only cereal and bananas and milk early Tuesday morning. I watched Monday Night Football, won by the homestanding Steelers 27-3 over the hapless Bengals. I cleared out some trash and recyclables on the way out to reading my rain gauge (for a change).
The snowstorm (up to 4 feet of snow in the highest elevations – saw a report of 48 inches from Browning and East Glacier MT with 6+ foot drifts at 1630 MDT Monday and still snowing) is starting to wind down out in the Northern Rockies now.
October will start on Tuesday with much warmer temps and partly sunny afternoon skies after remaining clouds this morning, with high temps in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s
Wednesday may have record setting heat at DCA with highs in the low-mid 90s and sunny skies with lows around 70.
Thursday should be partly cloudy and cooler with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the low 60s.
A cooldown to more like fall starts on Friday with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the mid 40s under mostly sunny skies that should continue into Saturday with mid 60s for highs and lows in the low 50s.
Sunday should be mostly cloudy with highs around 70 and lows in the mid 50s, then possibly cloudy with showers on Monday and remaining cool.
On Midnight Monday, mostly cloudy skies with a temperature of 66.6 degrees, relative humidity 84%, pressure falling at 30.19 inches with the dew point temperature at 61.7 degrees.
Currently at 0806 Tuesday morning the temperature is 66.3 degrees under mostly cloudy skies (thin overcast – sun trying to poke through) , relative humidity at 89%, barometric pressure steady at 30.16 inches, and the dew point temperature at 63 degrees.
Good morning from the walrus on this cloudy, slowly drying out and warming Tuesday.
