Thursday was a sunny, dry day, a tad warmer, enough to break a 6 day streak of sub 80 degree max temps (using rounded to the nearest degree values) but gradually less humid and generally pleasant.  High temperatures were around 80 degrees after an early morning min in the low 60s. Dew point temperatures were in the mid 60s at the very beginning of the day, but dropped down into the 50s by mid-day and stayed in the upper 50s to around 60 the rest of the day up to midnight observation time.

The maximum temperature was 79.6 degrees at 1711.

The minimum temperature was 61.0 degrees at 0639.

The dew point temperatures ranged from a high of 66 degrees @ 0000 down to a low of 57 degrees @ 1215.

The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 94% @ 0000 down to a low of 47% @ 1649.

The barometric pressure ranged from a low of 29.91 inches @ 0000 up to a high of 30.05 inches @ 2315.

There was no precipitation on Thursday so the August total rainfall is 7.63 inches and the odds look pretty good that the monthly total will stay that way for the final August value. The year-to-date total is 37.66 inches.

Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values every day of late so should not be used except for general precipitation timing. (for example, it recorded 2.15 inches of rain early this month (Sunday 8/4), with a 16.94 inch an hour rain rate at 0021 very early on that day that was way over what actually occurred.)

I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my official precipitation total each day.

I rested a good while on Thursday, having a late breakfast of cereal, milk, bananas and coffee after I took a shower before the usual weekly trivia game. I gave out the questions, and had to make a few minor updates before the game since I had prepared to give the questions a week ago, and some of my questions are pointed towards specific very current dates. Not bad at all, as long as I stay within the same month which I did.  My friend Mary Alexander made a delicious carrot cake for us to enjoy after the questions were over, during a more social part of the activities. I made some delicious parmesan risotto for a late dinner, a frozen bag I got with my Schwan’s order earlier in the week, with fresh mushrooms added to it that I sauteed in olive oil to embellish it a bit. I also had a bit more of Mary’s carrot cake for dessert later on. I watched some preseason football, a battle of the Beltways as the Baltimore Ravens beat the Washington Redskins 20-7 in the last preseason game before the regular season starts in early September. 

Friday should once again be sunny with the warmest high temps of the week in the upper 80s and lows in the mid 60s.

Labor Day weekend (Saturday through Monday) should be mostly to partly sunny, with highs in the low-mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s and dry.

Tuesday and Wednesday should stay sunny to partly cloudy, with temps warming up in the upper 80s to low 90s but lows still a somewhat comfortable mid-upper 60s. 

Hurricane Dorian looms well to the south, and has strengthened, tracking a bit more south as it looks to approach the Florida coast as a CAT 3 or 4 hurricane on Sunday or Monday. Still too far in the future to tell what, if any,
affect the storm may have on our area, but I will be watching it closely in the days ahead to see where it tracks and how strong it gets.

Midnight Thursday recorded a temperature of 64.5 degrees, relative humidity 87%, pressure rising at 30.04 inches and the dew point temperature at 60.5 degrees under clear skies.

Currently at 0745 Friday morning the temperature is a pleasant 60.0 degrees under clear skies, relative humidity at 94%, barometric pressure steady at 30.08 inches, and the dew point temperature at a comfortable 58 degrees.

Good morning from the walrus on this clear early Friday. Today’s attached image is looking W from outside Building A where Thursday’s trivia game was at about 1855 EDT. Sun really going down earlier these days, when we got out of the game and social afterwards, it was pretty much dark. Two months ago the sun was still shining.
