Partly cloudy, not quite as hot but still quite humid into the evening ahead of one more heavy thundershower update for Thursday, August 22, 2019 at West Rockville Maryland

Thursday was not quite as hot as earlier in the week with temps rising into the upper 80s due to more clouds than sun and stormy evening periods in evening, still quite humid into the evening with the storm. We had severe thunderstorm watches by mid-afternoon and warnings as the storms moved in during the evening. We had one heavy thunderstorm from about 2025-2100 (0.69 inches total for the day) , with 59 lightning strikes recorded by my lightning detector. The storm, recorded over a 14 inch/hour unofficial rain rate at 2040 in my VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge. High temperatures reached the upper 80s by mid afternoon after a slightly cooler overnight with lows around the 70s Dew point temps rose into the
mid 70s the evening just ahead of the storm after early AM minimum values in the upper 60s. .

The maximum temperature was 88.0 degrees at 1617.

The minimum temperature was 70.3 degrees at 0646.

The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 69 degrees @ 0531 up to a high of 75 degrees @ 1805.

The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 96% @ 0357 down to a low of 58% @ 1507.

The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 29.98 inches @ 1032 down to a low of 29.86 inches @ 1847.

There was 0.69 inches of precipitation on Thursday so there now is a total of 7.29 inches of rain in August. The year-to-date total is now 35.88 inches.

My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall so please use the cocorahs link shown below) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called Gardens of Traville. Data is online, available in real-time as it is being updated on a 5
minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200

I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 and can be found on the web at https://www.cocorahs.org

Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values every day of late so should not be used except for general precipitation timing. (for example, it recorded 2.15 inches of rain over a week ago (Sunday 8/4), with a 16.94 inch an hour rain rate at 0021 very early on that day that was way over what actually occurred.)

I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my official precipitation total each day.

Thursday was a busy day, somewhat frustrating in the evening as a mixup in the trivia game shelved my  trivia questions I had researched and compiled earlier in the week till next week, as our friend Bob was all ready to give the group his. Very minor changes/updates will be made to my questions for presentation next week, so no real big deal. I got up just in time for my cleaning engineer and her assistant’s arrival around 1430 to perform their magic on my mess, especially in the kitchen. They only took about an hour, as I was late in getting my bedding washed and dried completely for her to be able to make a fresh bed. No problem, I did it later. I only ate one meal, leftover spaghetti and meatballs, this time without any unfortunate accidents on the now clean floor. I watched pre-season football after eating, as the Ravens beat the Eagles despite a delay caused by thunderstorms in Philadelphia, and the Redskins win over the Falcons in Atlanta. I watched some of the Little League World Series, since a local team from Northern Virginia was playing Louisiana up in Williamsport PA in the losers bracket, and got no-hit and skunked 10-0 (mercy rule in the 5th inning after Louisiana went up by 10 runs) and so Loudoun County Virginia was eliminated from further competition.

Friday was cloudy and significantly cooler, with highs in the lows 70s and lows in the mid 60s and a bit of light rain/drizzle in the afternoon with evening slow clearing as the cold front moved slowly south
through the area.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be nice with partly to mostly sunny, dry skies and highs in the mid-upper 70s with lows in the mid-upper 60s.

Tuesday should also be partly cloudy and a tad warmer with highs around 80 and lows in the mid 60s and partly cloudy skies.

Wednesday should feature partly to mostly cloudy skies, highs in the low 80s, lows in the low 60s with chances of showers and thundershowers.

Thursday should clear out nicely with bright, sunny skies and highs in the low-mid 80s and lows in the low-mid 60s.

Midnight Thursday recorded a temperature of 72.4 degrees, relative humidity 94%, pressure rising at 29.95 inches and the dew point temperature at 70.6 degrees under mostly cloudy skies.

Currently at 1228 mid-day Saturday the temperature is a pleasant 73.1 degrees under mostly sunny skies with a few scattered fair-weather cumulus dotting the skies, relative humidity at 54%, barometric pressure steady at 30.20 inches, and the dew point temperature at a comfortable 55 degrees.

Good midday from the walrus on this sunny, pleasant Saturday. Today’s attached image is looking NE from my apartment balcony late on Wednesday afternoon during one of our rainy interludes.
