Partly to mostly cloudy, not quite as hot but still quite humid mid-day into the evening with two separate heavy thundershowers in the late afternoon/early evening update for Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at West Rockville Maryland
Wednesday had not quite as hot temps rising into the upper 80s due to more clouds than sun and rainy periods in the late afternoon and early evening, still quite humid mid-day but a bit less humid very early in the day. We had severe thunderstorm watches by mid-afternoon and warnings as the storms moved in, after an earlier in the day prediction of little to no action. We had heavy thunderstorms twice (1.22 inches total for the day) , once in the late afternoon from 1730-1815 with 75 lightning strikes recorded by my lightning detector and then about 2010-2050 with 27 more lightning strikes. The earlier storm had about twice the amount of rain than the later storm, but both recorded over 10 inch/hour unofficial rain rates at 1736 and 2014 on my VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge. High temperatures reached the upper 80s by mid afternoon before the first storm moved in after a slightly cooler overnight with
lows in the upper 60s Dew point temps rose into the mid 70s midday after early AM minimum values in the upper 60s. .
The maximum temperature was 89.0 degrees at 1605.
The minimum temperature was 69.0 degrees at 0610.
The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 68 degrees @ 0130 up to a high of 77 degrees @ 1151.
The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 96% @ 0748 down to a low of 63% @ 1620.
The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.07 inches @ 0022 down to a low of 29.87 inches @ 1824.
There was 1.22 inches of precipitation on Wednesday so there now is a total of 6.60 inches of rain in August. The year-to-date total is now 35.19 inches.
My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall so please use the cocorahs link shown below) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called Gardens of Traville. Data is online, available in real-time as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 and can be found on the web at https://www.cocorahs.org
Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values every day of late so should not be used except for general precipitation timing. (for example, it recorded 2.15 inches of rain over a week ago (Sunday 8/4), with a 16.94 inch an hour rain rate at 0021 very early on that day that was way over what actually occurred.)
I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my official precipitation total each day.
Wednesday was a busy day, as I finished up the trivia questions for Thursday evening and headed into my July weather report for the WEATHERSHELTER and tried to prepare somewhat for my monthly cleaning which came on Thursday afternoon. I finished up my cereal and had it with another banana, plus some coffee for a late breakfast. I watched some of the Little League World Series, since a local team from Northern Virginia was playing Hawaii up in Williamsport PA. Virginia lost 12-9 in quite a comeback tussle after getting behind at the start 5-0 in the very first inning. I finished up the chicken and rice a roni from a few days ago for dinner, still quite good. I watched the Yankees lose to Oakland 6-4 from the West Coast quite late in the evening. And I chronicled and followed closely all our storm details in the late afternoon and early evening
Thursday was a really busy day both apartment-wise and weather-wise. Active storm pattern kept up in the evening, with more to report on for the Thursday report. We had the usual partly cloudy skies and still very warm temps and humid with highs in the upper 80s and lows around 70.
Friday will be mostly cloudy and cooler, with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the upper 50s and chances of post-frontal showers as the cold front moves slowly through the area.
Saturday and Sunday should be nice with partly to mostly sunny, dry skies and highs in the upper 70s with lows around 60.
Monday should also feature pleasant temps with highs around 80 and lows in the low 60s and partly cloudy skies.
Midnight Wednesday recorded a temperature of 73.5 degrees, relative humidity 95%, pressure rising at 29.92 inches and the dew point temperature at 72.0 degrees under mostly cloudy skies.
Currently at 2350 late Thursday the temperature is 72.4 degrees under cloudy skies, relative humidity at 93%, barometric pressure rising at 29.95 inches, and the dew point temperature at 70 degrees.
Good late evening from the walrus on this cloudy, recently stormy Thursday. Today’s attached image is of the western sky in between buildings A and B in my apartment complex on the way to trivia, with storm clouds building about 1900 on Thursday .
