Well with the tremendous flooding event on Monday morning, I got behind checking out all the reports and counting all the raindrops in my rain gauge (lol) so I have another 2 day somewhat condensed report for Monday and Tuesday. Also the All Star game and home run derby took up a bit of my spare time to catch the action.

At least Monday was a lot cooler, but early morning unusually timed and strong  storms that marched down I-270 from Frederick in a SE direction from 0700 till 0730 arrival here. The next few hours had torrential rains (2.86 inches for the day, most all fell in the morning), some thunder and lightning, and a lot of flooding in flood-prone areas in the region, with numerous water rescues, blocked roads, wet roads and subway tunnels that really played havoc most of the day in much of the area. I am not in a particularly flood-prone area here so I didn’t have as many problems as low spots and along rivers and canals. The day remained cloudy and relatively cool. We only managed to hit the mid 70s right after midnight for my daily high temperature, sliding slowly down into the upper 60s by the very end of the day.  The dew point temperature started out in the mid 70s in the very early AM sliding slowly down into the mid 60s by the late evening. just before midnight observation time.

The maximum temperature was 76.2 degrees at 0001.

The minimum temperature was 68.2 degrees at 2357.

The dew point temperatures ranged from a high of 74 degrees @ 0011 down to a low of 65 degrees @ 2335.

The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 96% @ 0759 down to a low of 75% @ 1900.

The barometric pressure ranged from a low of 29.84 inches @ 0713 up to a high of 30.04 inches @ 2344.

There was 2.86 inches of precipitation on Monday. A total of 5.27 inches of rain has now been recorded in July. The year-to-date total is now 27.93 inches. Today turned out to be the 5th wettest day in my very short 2 1/2 year station history. Since January 2017, 3 of the 5 wettest months have occurred in July. More statistics will be developed with my July monthly summary to be produced sometime in August.

Tuesday was warmer and much drier with mostly sunny skies. The day was spent on flood recovery by many county and area residents. The early morning min was in the relatively pleasant mid 60s , rising into the mid 80s by mid-afternoon. The dew point temperature atarted out in the low 60s in the very early AM then rose into the low 70s by early afternoon, then dropped into the upper mid 60s by midnight observation.

The maximum temperature was 85.6 degrees at 1550.

The minimum temperature was 64.6 degrees at 0600.

The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 63 degrees @ 0340 up to a high of 71 degrees @ 1305.

The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 95% @ 0445 down to a low of 57% @ 1525.

The barometric pressure ranged from a low of 30.04 inches @ 0000 up to a high of 30.11 inches @ 0820.

There was no precipitation on Tuesday.  There still is a total of 5.27 inches of rain being reported for July. The year-to-date total is 27.93 inches.

My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, available in real-time as it is being updated on
a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200

I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115. Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/

Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values every day of late so should not be used except for general precipitation timing.

I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

On Monday night I had a delicious Screamin’ Sicilian supreme pizza and 2 Troegenator beers to enjoy while watching the home run derby at the All Star party in Cleveland on ESPN.  On Tuesday to accompany the actual All Star game I had 2 tasty bratwurst, par-boiled first then foreman grilled to finish them up along with a mixed green salad. I had cereal for breakfast earlier. The American League won the all star game 4-3 over the National League, their 7th straight All Star game win.

We should have a fairly seasonable week ahead, with max temps in the upper 80s to around 90, and lows in the upper 60s to around 70. Partly to mostly sunny skies should dominate, except on Thursday when the only cloudy and somewhat rainy day of the week is expected, with the usual occasional showers and thunderstorms prevailing. A slightly cooler trend should continue all week, with mid-upper 80s expected through Friday, with lows in the mid-upper 60s.

Midnight Tuesday recorded a temperature of 72.5°, relative humidity 85%, pressure rising at 30.09 inches and a dew point temperature of 67.7° under clear skies.

Currently at 0642 the temperature is 68.4° under mostly sunny skies with a bit of high cirrus in spots, relative humidity at 93%, barometric pressure steady at 30.08 inches, and the dew point temperature at 66°.

Good morning from the walrus on this sunny Wednesday. Today’s featured (attached) image of a nicely tree-framed building cumulus cloud were taken this past Saturday, at the rain gauge about 1400 EDT looking west.
