Partly sunny, hot and humid update for Friday June 28 and Saturday, June 29, 2019 from West Rockville Maryland
I got busy then crashed Friday night so I missed posting the report for Friday until now when I will combine the information with Saturday’s report into this post. I also got my grocery order on Friday and played rummikub, so I was kind of tied up with those activities for a good part of Friday, which is probably why I crashed out early.
Both Friday and Saturday were partly cloudy, quite hot and humid with risks of storms both days but save for late Saturday evening’s light thunderstorm the storms fell elsewhere, like over southern Maryland and parts of Northern Virginia. Clouds moved in during the late afternoon/early evening both days and looked threatening at times, and severe thunderstorm warnings were posted both days but failed to pan out here. Temperatures rose from the upper 60s to lower 70s in the early AM to the low 90s by mid-
afternoon prior to the storm threat/increase in clouds, then lowered into the 80s in the late afternoon/early evening from the storm action “cooling”. Eventually temps slid down into the low-mid 70s by later in the evening. The dew point temperature rose quickly in the morning when they started out in the mid 60s in the early AM then rose into the low to mid 70s by late morning/early afternoon and then dropped back into
the mid-upper 60s by evening.
Friday:
The maximum temperature was 92.1 degrees at 1537.
The minimum temperature was 68.9 degrees at 0531.
The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 66 degrees @ 0413 up to a high of 73 degrees @ 1852.
The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 92% @ 0538 down to a low of 47% @ 1755.
The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.20 inches @ 0914 down to a low of 30.09 inches @ 1735.
There was no precipitation on Friday. There has been 2.31 inches of rain recorded so far in June. The year-to-date total is 22.60 inches.
Saturday:
The maximum temperature was 93.1 degrees at 1546.
The minimum temperature was 70.6 degrees at 0632.
The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 67 degrees @ 0220 up to a high of 75 degrees @ 1140.
The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 89% @ 0625 down to a low of 46% @ 1635.
The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.12 inches @ 0000 down to a low of 29.93 inches @ 1740.
There was 0.02 inches of precipitation in a late evening light thundershower on Saturday. There has been 2.33 inches of rain recorded so far in June. The year-to-date total is now 22.62 inches.
My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, available in real-time as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/
Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values every day of late so should not be used except for general precipitation timing.
I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
On Friday I had a frozen Stouffer’s entree of meat loaf and mashed potatoes. I also added some steamfresh green beans. I had some roasted potato chips at the rummikub game.
On Saturday I had a toasted everything bagel with melted cheese, eggs, and turkey sausage I also enjoyed the weekly baseball game on FOX from London England featuring the Yankees and Red Sox. The Bronx bombers outlasted Boston 17-13 in quite a slugfest that lasted well over 4 hours.
Sunday and Monday should give us a minor respite from the heat, with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the low-mid 60s with lower dew points and bright blue and sunny skies.
Unfortunately with the start of July it appears that on Tuesday we will resume the heat wave, with highs in the mid 90s and lows in the lower 70s and partly cloudy skies.
That hot, humid partly cloudy pattern should continue through the 4th of July week, with possible afternoon/evening storms starting on Wednesday.
Midnight Saturday recorded a temperature of 72.7°, relative humidity 84%, pressure falling at 29.98 inches and a dew point temperature of 67.6° under partly cloudy skies.
Currently at 1110 the temperature is 83.3° under sunny skies, relative humidity at 54%, barometric pressure steady at 29.89 inches, and the dew point temperature falling off somewhat at 65°.
Good late morning from the walrus on this Sunday.
