Cloudy, mild, somewhat rainy two day period update for Friday, February 22 and Saturday, February 23, 2019 for West Rockville Maryland

I have been busy catching up after a crazy 2 day sleep schedule. So today I have a somewhat condensed 2 day report. Cloudy, mild days in the 40s for highs and 30s for lows with a bit of light rain later in the day on Saturday highlight the two day period.

Cloudy on Friday with temps peaking out in the mid 40s at the very start of the observation day at midnight, dropping slowly most of the day to the upper 30s minimum for the day about 22 hours later.  On Saturday, clouds predominated with rain coming in, but very lightly during the afternoon and a bit heavier in the evening (0.08″). Once again the high temperature for the day was at the very beginning around 40° and the low in the mid 30s was reached in the early evening. Thursday’s scant snow cover was totally wiped out by sometime on Friday.

Friday

The maximum temperature was 46.6° at 0000.

The minimum temperature was 39.2° at 2219.

The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 27° @ 0550 up to a high of 32° @ 1310.

The relative humidity values ranged from a low of 49% @ 0000 up to a high of 73% @ 2155.

The barometric pressure ranged from a low of 30.25″ @ 0000 up to a high of 30.47″ @ 2040.

Friday had no precipitation, liquid or frozen. Snow on the ground at midnight was totally gone.

Saturday

The maximum temperature was 40.2° at 0012.

The minimum temperature was 36.2° at 1823.

The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 27° @ 0827 up to a high of 36° @ 1604.

The relative humidity values ranged from a low of 64% @ 0107 up to a high of 95% @ 2356.

The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.49″ @ 0854 down to a low of 30.11″ @ 2326.

Saturday had 0.08″ of precipitation. My February monthly total is now 2.69″ with my year-to-date total at 6.27″ for 2019.

No snow/sleet fell on Saturday. My February total snowfall is still 7.3″ with the seasonal total at 24.3″.

My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time now as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200

I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/

Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values at times so should not be used except for general precipitation timing. For example during our big snowstorm back in mid-January the snow didn’t melt at all during the storm, and only started to record precipitation amounts a few days later when the sun and above freezing temperatures started to melt the snow. This scenario also developed nicely on Thursday as the sun melted most if not all of the snow in the tipping bucket rain gauge. 0.86″ passed through the tipping bucket all day Thursday even though no precipitation fell from the sky.

I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day. I also use a snow stake outside my balcony window to get an idea on how much snow has fallen (while it is snowing) and how much snow is on the ground as I did on Wednesday.

Sunday looks cloudy and rainy esp early, but with some peaks of afternoon sun temps should top the 60° mark under increasing SW winds. Lows around the freezing mark.

Monday should be sunny, colder and windy with highs in the low-mid 40s and lows in the mid 20s.

Tuesday should be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 20s.

Wednesday and Thursday should be partly cloudy with high temps in the low to mid 40s, lows in the 30s.

Rain is expected to fall on Friday, with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the upper 30s.

Midnight Saturday night found the temperature at 36.9°, relative humidity 95%, pressure falling at 30.11″ and the dew point at 35.7° under a cloudy sky.

Currently at 0612 the temperature is 36.4° under cloudy, rainy skies, relative humidity at 95%, barometric pressure falling at 29.85″, and the dew point at 35°. 0.52″ of rain has fallen so far since midnight.

Good morning from the rainy, snowless walrus on this cloudy, wet Sunday.
