A mostly cloudy, mild, start to 2019 update for West Rockville, Maryland for New Year’s Day Tuesday, January 1 and Wednesday January 2, 2019

Once again I am still behind with leftover holiday cleanup and year-end wrapups continuing so I am combining the first 2 days of 2019 into this one post.

New Year’s Day Tuesday was partly cloudy and unseasonably mild. The temperatures ranged from a very mild 60° in the morning with a bit of light rain (0.01″) but gradually dropping in the PM hours to the low 40s by the late evening

Wednesday was cloudy and cooler but dry as rain stayed south by about 50 miles.  The temperatures ranged from the upper 30s in the morning rising to the mid 40s by mid-day

My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time now as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200

I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/

Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket is producing erratic values so should not be used save for general precipitation timing. For example recently the bucket recorded 5.62″ for the day, clearly a significantly higher amount when compared to my 4 inch gauge total that day (3.24″). I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

Thursday looks partly cloudy with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the upper 20s.

Friday looks cloudy with temps holding in the 40s.

Saturday looks rainy with highs holding mostly in the 40s once again.

Sunday should turn partly cloudy with highs in the low-mid 50s and lows in the low-mid 30s.

Wednesday’s midnight observations include a temperature of 43.1°, relative humidity 83%, barometric pressure 30.02″ and falling, with a dew point of 38.3° under cloudy skies.

Currently at 0945 on Thursday the temperature is 46.1°, dew point temperature 40°, relative humidity 78%, and the barometric pressure at 30.05″ and rising under cloudy skies.

Good morning from the Walrus on this cloudy Thursday morning.
