A mostly cloudy, mild, wet ending to 2018 update for West Rockville, Maryland for Sunday, December 30 and Monday December 31, 2018
I got behind the past few days with holiday bustle and year-end wrapups so I am combining the last 2 days of 2018 into this one post
Sunday was partly cloudy and seasonably mild. The temperatures ranged from the mid 30s in the very early morning rising to the mid 40s by mid-afternoon.
The maximum temperature was 46.3° at 1508,
The minimum temperature was 34.1° at 0329.
Dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 31° @ 0000 up to a high of 37° @ 1501.
Relative humidity values ranged from a high of 89% @ 2247 down to a low of 66% @ 1554.
Barometric pressure ranged from a low of 30.18″ @ 0346 up to a high of 30.29″ @ 2325
No rain fell on Sunday.
Monday was cloudy and increasingly milder as the day progressed. The temperatures ranged from the mid 30s in the very early morning rising to around 50° by late evening as the New Year of 2019 was just arriving. Mostly light rain fell between 1130 and 2230 (approx)
The maximum temperature was 50.1° at 2354.
The minimum temperature was 36.0° at 0059.
Dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 33° @ 0036 up to a high of 49° @ 2358.
Relative humidity values ranged from a high of 97% @ 2050 down to a low of 86% @ 0246.
Barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.33″ @ 0856 down to a low of 29.83″ @ 2358
Monday had 0.65″ of rain. December 2018 finished out with 7.35″ of precipitation (liquid water equivalent) for the month). The year-to-date precipitation totaled up to 66.07″. When compared (unofficially – two different locations) with my old Gaithersburg records that spanned 1979-2016, my only wetter year was 68.35″ in 1996.
My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time now as it is
being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/
Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket is producing erratic values so should not be used save for general precipitation timing. For example recently the bucket recorded 5.62″ for the day, clearly a significantly higher amount when compared to my 4 inch gauge total that day (3.24″). I actually use the data I post
to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
New Year’s Day Tuesday started out 2019 on a mild note with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the lower 40s under partly cloudy skies.
Wednesday looks cloudy with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the upper 30s.
Thursday looks partly cloudy with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the low 30s. Friday also looks partly cloudy with temps holding in the 40s. Saturday looks rainy with highs holding in the 40s once again. Sunday should turn partly cloudy with highs in the mid 50s and lows in the mid 30s.
Monday’s New Year’s midnight observations include a temperature of 50.0°, relative humidity 97%, barometric pressure 29.83″ and falling, with a dew point of 49.3° under cloudy skies.
Currently at 1923 on Wednesday the temperature is 43.5°, dew point temperature 37°, relative humidity 77%, and the barometric pressure at 30.18″ and falling under cloudy skies.
Good evening from the Walrus on this cloudy Wednesday evening.
