A cloudy, turning warmer late, rainy mid-afternoon through the evening update from West Rockville Maryland for Thursday, December 20, 2018
Thursday was a cloudy day after some early AM chill. Temps rose into the 40s by late morning and in the late evening rose quickly into the upper 50s under increasing S/SE winds. Rain (0.43″) started to fall in the mid-afternoon and continued into the evening. We are in an area flood watch till Saturday evening.
My apartment complex had a holiday potluck on Thursday late afternoon/early evening in the party room for Building C. I brought country style ribs cooked in my crockpot which was a hit with many of the guests and employees in attendance. The featured image today shows the party room full of residents and employees in line for all the food, which was really great with plenty to go around. Naturally the rain had started to fall a few hours before the festivities started at about 1600.
The maximum temperature was 58.7° at 2359.
The minimum temperature was 32.5° at 0443.
Dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 29° @ 0420 up to a high of 58° @ 2344.
Relative humidity values ranged from a low of 76% @ 0000 up to a high of 97% @ 2119.
Barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.11″ @ 0000 down to a low of 29.48″ @ 2351.
0.43″ of rain fell on Thursday. December 2018 now has a total of 4.61″ of precipitation (liquid water equivalent). The year-to-date precipitation is now 63.60″. Unfortunately snow is not in future forecasts for the foreseeable future through Christmas, so a White Christmas looks rather unlikely for our immediate area.
My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time now as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/
Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket is producing erratic values so should not be used save for general precipitation timing. For example last Saturday it recorded 5.62″ for the day, clearly a significantly higher amount when compared to my 4 inch gauge total that day (3.24″). I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
There is an Area Flood Watch out for most of the region through Saturday evening.
Friday should stay mild during the overnight with highs in the low 60s through the afternoon then cooling off in the evening/overnight around 40° under cloudy, rain showery (100 POP – heavy at times – perhaps even a rumble of thunder) skies.
Saturday will dry out and cool off with partly cloudy skies, highs in the mid 40s, lows around freezing.
Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 40s and lows in the mid 30s.
Friday’s midnight observations included a temperature of 58.7°, relative humidity 97%, barometric pressure 29.48″ and falling, with a dew point of 57.9° under cloudy, damp skies.
Currently at 0744 the temperature is 61.3°, dew point temperature 61°, relative humidity 97%, and the barometric pressure at 29.41″ and falling under cloudy, damp skies. During the overnight, temperatures held in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Good morning from the Walrus on this cloudy Friday.
