A partly cloudy, dry, milder update from West Rockville, Maryland for Thursday, December 13, 2018
Thursday was a partly cloudy, milder day with clouds slowly on the increase in the PM, ahead of our rainy weekend. High temps almost reached the 50° mark after our first above freezing min since 12/4 (32.6°). Of course this rainy system coming in for a few days is the driving force for sending our mins rising over the freezing mark, as happens oh so often during the winter around here. Temperatures slid back down after sunset a bit but stayed above freezing in the mid-upper 30s by observation time, extending through the overnight.
The maximum temperature was 49.0° at 1510.
The minimum temperature was 35.0° at 0755.
Dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 29° @ 0000 up to a high of 36° @ 2156.
Relative humidity values ranged from a high of 81% @ 0801 down to a low of 55% @ 1444.
Barometric pressure ranged from a low of 30.19″ @ 0054 up to a high of 30.42″ @ 2142.
No rain or snow fell on Thursday. December 2018 still has a total of 0.44″ of precipitation (liquid water equivalent) . The year-to-date precipitation is still 59.25″. Those amounts should start changing today and continue to change through the weekend. The QPF (Quantative Precipitation Forecast) for my location is well over an inch of rain for this three day period. Unfortunately snow is not in the future forecasts for the foreseeable future.
For now, I am working on a better link to get my VP2 data on Weatherlink. I migrated over to Weatherlink 2.0 and my data isn’t so easy to find securely. Weather Underground should be used. My data is posted there every 5-10 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/
Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket is producing erratic values when compared with my 4 inch gauge. I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Friday looks cloudy and cool, with an 80 POP for PM rain, temps holding in the low-mid 40s all day.
On Saturday we have a 90 POP for rain with highs in the low 50s and lows in the low 40s.
Sunday rain continues (80 POP) and a bit cooler, with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 30s.
Monday should turn mostly sunny with high temps in the upper 40s and lows around 30°.
Tuesday should be sunny and colder, with highs in the low 40s and lows in the mid 20s.
Thursday’s midnight observations included a temperature of 42.7°, relative humidity 76%, barometric pressure 30.40″ and falling, and a dew point of 35.7° under cloudy skies.
Currently at 0634 the temperature is 38.7°, dew point temperature 37°, relative humidity 92%, and barometric pressure at 30.43″ and steady under cloudy skies. During the overnight, temperatures fell a bit from the low 40s into the upper 30s under cloudy skies and dew points rising.
Good morning from the Walrus early on this Friday.
