A cloudy, cold, just miss snowstorm to the south update from West Rockville, Maryland for Sunday December 9 2018
Sunday was cloudy and cold all day here in Rockville. Less than 50 miles to my south measurable snow fell (1-3″) in central VA and southern MD. Today was the first day of the season with sub-freezing temperatures all day. So the cold air was there for a snowstorm, the moisture was blocked by the cold, dry air from advancing into our immediate area unfortunately. Temperatures did not vary much today, only ranging from the upper 20s in the early AM and then again in the late evening, with low 30s in much of the afternoon.
The maximum temperature was 31.9° at 1505.
The minimum temperature was 28.7° at 0657.
Dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 18° @ 0215 up to a high of 22° @ 1359.
Relative humidity values ranged from a low of 63% @ 0000 down to a high of 71% @ 2321.
Barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.58″ @ 0003 down to a low of 30.15″ @ 2348.
No rain or snow fell on Sunday. December 2018 still has a total of 0.44″ of precipitation (liquid water equivalent) . The year-to-date precipitation is still 59.25″.
For now, I am working on a better link to get my VP2 data on Weatherlink. I migrated over to Weatherlink 2.0 and my data isn’t so easy to find securely. Weather Underground should be used. My data is posted there every 5-10 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.”
Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/
Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket is producing erratic values when compared with my 4 inch gauge. I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Monday should be partly cloudy and not as cold with highs around 40° and lows in the low 20s.
Tuesday should be sunny and a tad warmer with highs in the low 40s and lows in the mid 20s.
Wednesday looks to be mostly sunny and seasonably cold, with highs around 40° and lows in the upper 20s.
Thursday looks cloudy with an AM Light Wintry Mix (40 POP), with high temps in the lower 40s and lows around the freezing mark. Friday looks cloudy and milder, with a 70 POP for PM rain, temps holding in the mid-upper 40s all day.
Sunday’s midnight observations included a temperature of 28.9°, relative humidity 71%, barometric pressure 30.15″ and falling, and a dew point of 20.7° under mostly cloudy skies.
Currently at 0729 the temperature is 27.2°, dew point temperature 19°, relative humidity 71%, and barometric pressure at 30.19″ and rising under mostly clear skies (some scattered cirrostratus in spots).
During the overnight, temperatures dropped a bit into the upper-mid 20s under clearing skies.
Good morning from the Walrus on this Monday.
