Mostly cloudy, not so warm but humid with a brief, heavy late evening thunderstorm update for West Rockville Maryland for Saturday, September 1, 2018

We had a mostly cloudy Saturday with high humidity once again and a late evening brief, heavy thunderstorm that got September started off to a wet start (0.86″ between 2045-2155 with a max rain rate of 3.58″/hour @ 2055). High temps only reached the low mid-80s with dew points predominately staying above 70° most of the day. The Saturday maximum temperature was 83.0° @ 1551, while the Saturday minimum temperature was a mild 72.2°, early @ 0112. The dew point temperatures rose into the mid 70s during the day after a brief stay in the upper 60s at the very start of the day, ranging from a low of 69° @ 0005 up to a high of 75° @ 1354. The barometric pressure rose some more again today – the highest value being 30.27″ @ 1214 down to a low of 30.18″ @ 1726. The relative humidity was about the same as yesterday, ranging from a low of 74% @ 1553 up to a high of 96% at 2325.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

Saturday started out the new month of September with mostly cloudy skies, highs in the low 80s once again, with brief, heavy thundershowers in the late evening. Today’s featured image shows a mid-afternoon view to the west from my cocorahs rain gauge, which got a workout about 6 hours later. Sunday dried out under mostly sunny skies and a bit warmer with high in the mid 80s and lows around 70° with only a 20 POP for an isolated shower or storm. Labor Day Monday will be hot once again (lower 90s) under continued partly cloudy skies and a 40 POP for PM thunderstorms. Lows will be in the low 70s through next Thursday. Tuesday will be partly cloudy with Wednesday and Thursday being mostly sunny and hot with highs in the low 90s with only a 20 POP for an isolated shower.

At 2350, Channel 4 radar is showing no rain returns within the 4-state Mid-Atlantic region. The closest rain, as usual, are showers and storms cutting through some of the central areas of Michigan and Wisconsin at this time.

At 2350, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

Clear skies, warm and humid.

Station Relative Location Temp RH    DP     BP    Wind High/Low on Sat
VP2            Ground        76.0°  89% 73° 30.24″R NA     83.0°/72.2°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.86″ through midnight Saturday.
The VP2 tipping bucket recorded 0.73″ on Saturday.

Saturday’s precipitation was 0.86″
August precipitation final total was 7.67″
September precipitation total is 0.86″.
Year-to-date precipitation total 38.94″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 75° 98% 74° 30.27″S SSE 1 G ESE 5
                            140° from station                  Sat. Hi/Lo 83°/71°

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.39″ of rain on Saturday. Since midnight, however it has recorded 0.01″. The September total precipitation total is currently incorrectly showing 0.00″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 50.13″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Saturday night the temperature from the VP2 was 72.7° RH 96% BP 30.22″F DP 71.6°
Clear, warm, humid.

Good evening from the clear but warm and humid home of the Walrus late on this Sunday.
