Mostly sunny, very warm, humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Monday, August 27, 2018

Monday was very warm and humid, our first one of several this week this last week of August, with high temps in the upper 80s and dew points climbing through the 70s under muggy southerly breezes. The Monday maximum temperature was 88.9° @ 1610, while the Monday minimum temperature was 71.3° @ 0704. The dew point temperatures climbed through the 70s today, ranging from a low of 70° @ 0222 up to a high of 78° @ 1316. The barometric pressure fell off a little – the highest value being 30.16″ @ 1109 down to a low of 30.07″ @ 1657. The relative humidity climbed more, ranging from a high of 96% @ 0543 down to a low of 66% at 1542.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

Sunny, hot, and humid conditions are in store for our area through Wednesday (mid 90s both days) this coming week under partly cloudy skies Tuesday and mostly sunny skies on Wednesday. Lows will be in the low 70s Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday looks like highs back down a bit to “just” 90° with clouds increasing into the afternoon and a 60 POP for PM thunderstorms as a cold front moves into our region and unfortunately stalls out. On Friday, cooler temps with highs only in the low 80s under partly cloudy skies but a 60 POP for PM thunderstorms, lows in the upper 60s. Initial thinking now is for somewhat of a wet Labor Day weekend with continued chances of showers and storms.

At 0219, Channel 4 radar is clear in the 4-state mid-Atlantic region. Closest precipitation is in the upper Midwest (MI, WI, and MN) with big storms continuing overnight after a rough day on Monday in some locations.

At 0219, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

Clear skies and warm with fog possibly forming near sunrise in a few hours.

Station Relative Location Temp  RH   DP     BP     Wind High/Low temp on Mon
VP2             Ground           76.5° 93% 74° 30.08″S NA     88.9°/71.3°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Monday.
The VP2 tipping bucket recorded 0.00″ on Monday.

Monday’s precipitation was 0.00″
August precipitation total 7.53″
Year-to-date precipitation total 37.94″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 76° 98% 76° 30.12″S Calm G SW 6
                              140° from station                Mon. Hi/Lo 93°/71°

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Monday. The August total precipitation total is still 4.26″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 49.43″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Monday night the temperature from the VP2 was 77.2° RH 90% BP 30.09″F DP 74.0°
Clear, warm and humid once again.

Good early morning from the clear, warm, humid home of the Walrus on this Tuesday.
