Sunny, warmer, more humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Sunday, August 26, 2018
Sunday was still relatively nice but warmer and more humid, with high temps around 85°, but with dew points climbing through the 60s into the low 70s, and more southerly breezes bringing these conditions into the area. The Sunday maximum temperature was 85.3° @ 1633, while the Sunday minimum temperature was 64.8° @ 0641. The dew point temperatures climbed more today, ranging from a low of 62° @ 0000 up to a high of 73° @ 1801. The barometric pressure fell today but not as much as I expected as the HIGH appeared to have retrograded back onto land over the SE US but not that far away – the highest value being 30.22″ @ 0031 down to a low of 30.08″ @ 1939. The relative humidity climbed some more, mostly on the low end, ranging from a high of 90% @ 0615 down to a low of 60% at 1457.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Sunny, hot, and humid conditions are in store for our area through Wednesday (low 90s Monday and mid 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday) this coming week under partly cloudy skies Monday and mostly sunny skies on Tuesday and Wednesday. Lows will be in the low 70s Monday through Wednesday. Thursday looks like highs back down a bit to “just” 90° with clouds increasing into the afternoon and a 50 POP for PM thunderstorms as a cold front moves into our region and unfortunately stalls out. On Friday, cooler temps with highs only around 80° under partly cloudy skies but a 60 POP for scattered thunderstorms, lows in the upper 60s. Initial thinking now is for somewhat of a wet Labor Day weekend with continued chances of showers and storms.
At 0658, Channel 4 radar is clear in the 4-state mid-Atlantic region save for some showers from out in the midwest that are just entering parts of NW PA at this time. It looks like the motion of these precipitation areas is straight west to east, so they should be no threat to our immediate central MD region.
At 0658, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Sunny skies with beautiful high clouds reflecting the first rays of sunlight, warm temps in the low 70s and muggy dew points also in the low 70s.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Sun
VP2 Ground 71.4° 96% 71° 30.12″S NA 85.3°/64.8°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Sunday.
The VP2 tipping bucket recorded 0.00″ on Sunday.
Sunday’s precipitation was 0.00″
August precipitation total 7.53″
Year-to-date precipitation total 37.94″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 71° 100% 71° 30.14″S Calm G WNW 6
140° from station Sun. Hi/Lo 88°/62°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Sunday. The August total precipitation total is still 4.26″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 49.43″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Sunday night the temperature from the VP2 was 75.7° RH 87% BP 30.11″R DP 71.6°
Clear, warm and humid once again.
Good morning from the sunny, warm, humid home of the Walrus on this Monday.
