Mostly sunny, warm, a bit less humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Tuesday August 14, 2018
Tuesday started out a bit cloudy with a light shower (0.01″) around 0830 according to my VP2 records. Temps had fallen into the mid 60s by sunrise, but rose quickly when the shower briefly moved in. Skies cleared thereafter and was a pretty pleasant day with mostly to partly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s. My 64.5° min temp Tuesday morning is the coolest morning of August so far. 11 of the first 13 days of the month have had mins of 70° or greater. At least we have been limited to 3 days of 90° or greater through the 14th for the month of August. Overnight into Wednesday skies were clear for the most part but we did have a brief cloudy and light showery period between about 0305 and 0325. Temps fell into the mid 60s by sunrise and were generally pleasant. The Tuesday maximum temperature was 82.5°@ 1608, while the Tuesday minimum temperature was 64.5°@ 0604. The dew point temperatures lowered quite a bit for August muggy standards, staying in the 60s all day, ranging from a low of 63° @ 0520 up to a high of 69° @ 1224. The barometric pressure fell off a bit from yesterday’s values – the lowest value being 29.90″ @ 1609 up to a high of 29.99″@ 2344. The relative humidity was a bit lower than yesterday, ranging from a high of 95% @ 0000 down to a low of 61% at 1631.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Skies were generally sunny on Tuesday except for a light morning shower (0.01″) with highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid 60s. Wednesday has been mostly to partly sunny and warm with highs in the mid 80s and low in the mid 60s, with some light (0.05″ in the tipping bucket so far) early morning showers. Thursday should heat up a bit into the low 90s under partly cloudy skies on Thursday, with lows in the lower 70s and only a 10 POP for rain. Friday looks to keep similar temperature patterns from Thursday but partly cloudy skies and a 40 POP for PM thunderstorms. Saturday looks partly cloudy, warm and humid with highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid 60s with a 60 POP for scattered thunderstorms. Sunday looks to have a 40 POP for AM showers and cooling off a bit to a high of about 80° and lows in the mid 60s.
At 1902, Channel 4 radar is showing only widely scattered isolated showers over northern sections of Pennsylvania and scattered showers along the NC coast. Nothing moving this way, that is for sure for now.
At 1902, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Partly cloudy skies, warm and humid and dry.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Tues
VP2 Ground 83.5° 64% 70° 30.02″S NA 82.5°/64.5°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.01″ through midnight Tuesday. The VP2 tipping bucket also recorded 0.01″ on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s precipitation was 0.01″
August precipitation total now at 3.03″
Year-to-date precipitation total 33.44″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 83° 54% 66° 30.06″S Calm G WNW 6
140° from station Tue. Hi/Lo 83°/64°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Tuesday. Yet the August total precipitation increased to a total of 2.24″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount rising to 47.41″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Tuesday night the temperature from the VP2 was 71.8° RH 85% BP 29.99″R DP 67.1°
Partly cloudy, warm and dry.
Good early evening from the partly cloudy, warm, and moderately humid but dry home of the Walrus on this Wednesday.
