Mostly sunny, not quite as hot or humid and dry update for West Rockville Maryland for Thursday August 9, 2018
Thursday featured a mostly sunny, not quite as hot or humid day, as we once again did not reach 90° today for our high after low 70s in the early morning. Overnight into Friday mostly clear skies (some high clouds), a bit less humid, but with no rain. Temperatures remained in the low 70s overnight, with dew points a bit lower in the upper 60s. The Thursday maximum temperature was 88.1° @ 1610, while the Thursday minimum temperature was 71.0° @ 0636. The dew point temperatures lowered a bit into the upper 60s-lower 70s, ranging from a low of 68° @ 0340 up to a high of 73° @ 1027. The barometric pressure remained somewhat low, similar to yesterday’s values – the lowest value being 29.85″ @ 1757 up to a high of 29.92″ @ 2328. The relative humidity was a tad low than yesterday, ranging from a high of 91% @ 0645 down to a low of 56% at 1600.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Friday looks to be partly cloudy with highs around 90°, lows in the lower 70s and totally dry. Both weekend days (and Monday) look to be more cloudy than sunny with highs in the low-mid 80s, lows in the mid-upper 60s with an 80 POP for thunderstorms on all three days. Tuesday looks partly cloudy with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s and a 60 POP for scattered thunderstorms at this time (probably will change, at least somewhat in the next few days.)
At 0706, Channel 4 radar is showing widely scattered showers out to my northwest in the mountain areas of western PA, not moving much and slowly dying out. More organized showers and storms can now be found over much of KY, TN and AL, slowly heading this way for our weekend rain chances.
At 0706, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Mostly sunny skies, some high clouds, warm and a bit less humid and dry.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Thursday
VP2 Ground 70.8° 89% 68° 29.93″R NA 88.1°/71.0°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Thursday. The VP2 tipping bucket also had 0.00″.
Thursday’s precipitation was 0.00″
August precipitation total is still 2.20″
Year-to-date precipitation total 32.61″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 70° 95% 68° 29.96″R NW 1 G N 3
140° from station Thu. (est) Hi/Lo 90°/70°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Thursday. The August total precipitation was updated to 2.02″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount at 47.19″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Thursday night the temperature from the VP2 was 75.8° RH 83% BP 29.92″R DP 70.3°
Clear, a bit less muggy, warm and dry.
Good morning from the mostly sunny (some high clouds), warm and humid home of the Walrus early on this Friday.
