Mostly sunny, hot, humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Monday August 6, 2018
Monday featured a mostly sunny, hot, humid but dry day, though we had a close call in the late afternoon according to radar with cells very close by. Once again we had a mostly cloudy sky for a few hours while the showers/storms were in the vicinity. We reached the low 90s for highs after muggy low 70s in the early morning. Overnight into Tuesday mostly clear skies (some high clouds), humid, but void of rain. Temperatures remained in the low-mid 70s overnight, with dew points about the same. The Monday maximum temperature was 91.0° @ 1614, while the Monday minimum temperature was 71.8° @ 0646. The dew point temperatures remained in upper 60s to mid 70s all day, ranging from a high of 77° @ 1225 down to a low of 69° @ 1757. The barometric pressure lowered some from yesterday’s values – the highest value being 30.15″ @ 0037 down to a low of 30.03″ @ 1738. The relative humidity remained high, just about the same as yesterday, ranging from a high of 96% @ 0732 down to a low of 54% at 1600.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
I spoke with Marty around traditional dinner time also via face-time, which Marty enjoyed and wants to do more of in the coming weeks. I spoke with Ray a few times about his upcoming possible living change and also of a mutual friend moving out of the area and selling his Novalynx instrument shelter that Ray is now quite interested in.
Monday featured sunny, hot, humid conditions most of the day, with some fair weather cumulus developing by early afternoon and more general cloudiness during the late afternoon at the time of the isolated showers closeby. It cleared out by later in the evening. Tuesday should be mostly sunny with highs in the low 90s and lows in the low 70s. Minimal chances for rain on Tuesday (20 POP). Wednesday will be partly cloudy with highs around 90°, lows in the lower 70s and a 40 POP for PM thunderstorms. Thursday and Friday look to be partly cloudy and slightly less humid with highs in the mid-upper 80s and lows in the mid-upper 60s.
At 0825, Channel 4 radar is clear within the 4-state mid-Atlantic region. The closest precipitation activity is out in parts of the north-central West Virginia mountains which appear to be moving slowly to the east, but probably will dry up by the time they get over the mountains and close to my area. There are showers out in sections of the Midwest (IN, IL, MO, IA) that may wind up in some form here on Wednesday.
At 0825, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Mostly sunny skies, some high clouds, warm and humid but dry.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Monday
VP2 Ground 76.4° 93% 74° 30.03″S NA 91.0°/71.8°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Monday. The VP2 tipping bucket had 0.01″, most likely an accidental tip as it occurred about 0430, when it was clear.
Monday’s precipitation was 0.00″
August precipitation total is still 2.13″
Year-to-date precipitation total 32.54″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 76° 98% 76° 30.06″S SE 4 G SW 5
140° from station Mon. Hi/Lo 94°/70°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Monday. The August total precipitation remained at 1.97″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount remaining at 47.14″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Monday night the temperature from the VP2 was 77.6° RH 88% BP 30.04″F DP 73.8°
Clear, muggy, and warm but dry.
Good morning from the mostly sunny (some high clouds), warm and humid home of the Walrus on this dry Tuesday.
