A mostly cloudy, a tad cooler, still humid, morning light showery update for West Rockville Maryland for Thursday June 21, 2018
Thursday was mostly cloudy, a tad cooler but still muggy, with a light AM shower between 1040 and 1105 (0.05″). Temperatures held mostly in the 70s all day. Overnight into Friday skies were cloudy, with temps only dropping from the mid 70s to upper 60s by sunrise. Temperatures will be cooler on Friday (only up to 70°) with clouds and all day (100 POP) rain. The Thursday maximum temperature was 79.0° @ 1517, while the Thursday minimum temperature was 69.6° @ 0533. The dew point temperatures remained in the upper 60s to low 70s all day, ranging from a high of 73° @ 0902 down to a low of 68° @ 1903. The barometric pressure lowered more from Wednesday’s values – the lowest value being 29.73″ @ 0435 up to a high of 29.84″ late @ 2349. The relative humidity values rose some from yesterday’s, ranging from a high of 97% at 0322 down to a low of 72% at 1713.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
I finished my May data spreadsheet input, and shipped it off to my friend Lowell for a final check prior to publication. Also I compiled a May monthly report for the NJWO publication “WEATHERSHELTER” and the online NJWO Blog that posted immediately after I sent it to a special email address just for blog input. I had my usual water, medications and supplements.
Thursday was mostly cloudy but except for a brief AM shower no rain fell the rest of the day. Friday features more clouds and rainy skies (90 POP) most of the day, with cooler temps not much higher than 70°. Saturday should be mostly cloudy with an 80 POP for thunderstorms, highs in the mid 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Sunday should be partly cloudy with highs in the mid-upper 80s and lows in the mid-upper 60s. Mostly sunny on Monday with highs around 80° and lows around 60°. Tuesday should be partly cloudy with highs around 80° once again and lows in the low 60s.
At 0856, NBC4 radar is showing a large expanse of light-moderate rain over much of the 4-state region, particularly to the S and SW of me in parts of northern and central Virginia. Rainfall is heading north, so we should be headed for a rainy day.
At 0856, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Cloudy (mostly stratocumulus) , cooler and increasingly damp – raining lightly now
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Thursday
VP2 Ground 67.7° 91% 65° 29.89″F NA 79.0°/69.6°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.05″ through midnight Thursday. The VP2 tipping bucket also had 0.05″. I think the generally greater amount in the VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge recently has been at least partially due to its proximity to a dense evergreen tree that frequently drips down and then blows the “catch” into the gauge. I mostly use this gauge to tell me when and how hard it rained. So far today it has recorded 0.04″ of rain through 0856.
Thursday’s precipitation was 0.05″
June precipitation 3.45″
Year-to-date precipitation total 21.87″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 67° 89% 64° 29.91″ ESE 5 G E 13
140° from station 80°/68°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.05″ of rain on Thursday. So far on Friday an additional 0.04″ has been recorded. June total precip is now being reported as 7.47″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount now at 33.50″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Thursday night the temperature from the VP2 was 74.5° RH 84% BP 29.84″R DP 69.3°
Cloudy, a bit warmer and still humid (than yesterday at this time) at 2400 Thursday
Good morning from the cloudy, cooler, damp home of the Walrus early on Friday.
