A mostly sunny, warm, generally comfortable update for West Rockville Maryland for Friday June 15, 2018

Friday was a sunny, warm, and generally comfortable day. Temperatures started out in the upper 50s in the early AM then rose into the low 80s by mid afternoon. Overnight into Saturday skies remained clear with temps dropping to around 60° by sunrise. Temperatures will rise more during the afternoon, into the mid 80s with partly cloudy skies and one more day of relatively low dew point temperatures. The Friday maximum temperature was 82.2° @ 1543, while the Friday minimum temperature dropped to 58.6° @ 0546. The dew point temperatures remained relatively low in the 50s all day, ranging from a high of 58° @ 0307 down to a low of 50° @ 1658. The barometric pressure rose from Thursday – the lowest value being 29.96″ @ 0023 up to a high of 30.04″ @ 2345. The relative humidity values were high early but lowered nicely by midday and carried through the rest of the day, ranging from a high of 88% at 0555 down to a low of 33% at 1658.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

Friday was mostly sunny with highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Mostly sunny skies on Saturday with highs in the mid 80s, lows in the mid 60s. Father’s Day Sunday should be partly cloudy and hot, with highs around 90° and lows around 70°. Monday looks to heat up even more under partly cloudy skies, with highs in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s. Tuesday should be more of the same under mostly sunny skies with highs in the lower mid 90s and lows around 70°. Hopefully Wednesday should be cooling off a bit with a 50 POP for scattered thunderstorms under partly to mostly cloudy skies, highs in the mid 80s and lows in the upper-mid 60s.

At 0800, NBC4 radar is clear throughout the 4 state mid-Atlantic region with the closest showers and storms found scattered around parts of the states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

At 0800, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

Sunny and dry

Station Relative Location Temp   RH   DP     BP    Wind High/Low temp on Friday
VP2             Ground            68.4° 72% 59° 30.10″R NA    82.2°/58.6°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Friday. The VP2 tipping bucket also recorded 0.00″. I think the generally greater amount in the VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge recently has been at least partially due to its proximity to a dense evergreen tree that frequently drips down and then blows the “catch” into the gauge. I mostly use this gauge to tell me when and how hard it rained.

Friday’s precipitation was 0.00″
June precipitation 2.27″
Year-to-date precipitation total 20.69″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 69° 71% 59° 30.10″ R Calm G N 1
                              140° from station                       82°/59°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Friday. June total precipitation remained at 6.59″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 32.63″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Friday night the temperature from the VP2 was 66.1° RH 71% BP 30.01″R DP 56.4°
Clear and pleasant at 2400 Friday

Good morning from the sunny and dry home of the Walrus early on Saturday.
