A mostly sunny, warm, gradually less humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Flag Day Thursday June 14, 2018
Flag Day (see today’s featured image) Thursday was a mostly sunny, warm, and gradually less humid day. Temperatures started out in the upper 60s in the early AM then gradually rose into the mid 80s by mid-late afternoon. Clouds were scattered around occasionally through the day, mostly high types. Overnight into Friday skies remained mostly clear with temps dropping into the upper 50s. Temps will rise into the low 80s later with partly cloudy skies and continued less humid conditions. The Thursday maximum temperature was 84.4° @ 1624, while the Thursday minimum temperature dropped to 68.2° @ 2359 (AM Min 69.7° @ 0704). The dew point temperatures were high in the early morning hours, but dropped off right after sunrise when the drier NW winds and clearing skies took over, ranging from a high of 73° @ 0000 down to a low of 52° @ 1120. The barometric pressure lowered a bit from Wednesday – the lowest value being 29.83″ @ 0022 up to a high of 29.98″ @ 1020. The relative humidity values were high early but lowered nicely by midday and carried through the rest of the day, ranging from a high of 90% at 0111 down to a low of 36% at 1628.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
I spoke with Ray a few times about our upcoming heat wave and other weather-related matters. I played trivia over in Building A in the early evening, with a few extra minutes of sitting outside in the pleasant evening conditions. .
Thursday was mostly sunny, warm and less humid after a muggy beginning. Friday should be partly cloudy with highs in the low 80s and lows around 60°. Mostly sunny skies on Saturday with highs in the mid 80s, lows in the mid 60s. Father’s Day Sunday should be partly cloudy and hot, with highs in the low 90s and lows in the low 70s. Monday looks to heat up even more under partly cloudy skies, with highs in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s. Tuesday should be more of the same under slightly less hot conditions, highs in the lower mid 90s and lows around 70°.
At 0825 NBC4 radar is clear throughout the 4 state mid-Atlantic region with the closest rain found up in parts of New England and New York, off the Carolina coast in the Atlantic, and storms rumbling through the upper Midwest in central to northern Wisconsin and Upper MI and MN at this time.
At 0825, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Mostly Sunny (with some scattered high clouds and contrails) and dry
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Thursday
VP2 Ground 70.0° 59% 55° 30.01″R NA 84.4°/68.2° (AM Min 69.7° @ 0704)
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Thursday. The VP2 tipping bucket also recorded 0.00″. I think the generally greater amount in the VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge recently has been at least partially due to its proximity to a dense evergreen tree that frequently drips down and then blows the “catch” into the gauge. I mostly use this gauge to tell me when and how hard it rained.
Thursday’s precipitation was 0.00″
June precipitation 2.27″
Year-to-date precipitation total 20.69″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 70° 51% 51° 30.02″ R NNW 3 G WNW 6
140° from station 84°/66°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Thursday. June total precip remained at 6.59″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 32.63″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Wednesday night the temperature from the VP2 was 68.2° RH 66% BP 29.97″R DP 56.4°
Clear and pleasant at 2400 Thursday
Good morning from the mostly sunny with scattered high clouds and dry home of the walrus early on Friday.
