A mostly cloudy, humid, warmer update for West Rockville Maryland for Wednesday June 13, 2018
Wednesday was a warmer, muggier and mostly cloudy day. Temperatures started out in the mid 60s in the early AM, rising into the muggy lower-mid 80s by mid-late afternoon. Clouds persisted most of the day, mostly high types, with the sun filtering through the thin overcast at times. Overnight into Thursday skies remained mostly cloudy with muggy 70s persisting. Temps only will fall into the low 70s by sunrise overnight, rising into the mid 80s later with partly cloudy skies and drier conditions. The Wednesday maximum temperature was 83.3° @ 1700, while the Wednesday minimum temperature only dropped to 65.8° @ 0406. The dew point temperatures continued to rise, ranging from a low of 63° @ 0000 up to a high of 74° @ 1459. The barometric pressure lowered from Tuesday – the highest value being 30.10″ @ 0000 down to a low of 29.84″ @ 2104. The relative humidity values remained high all day, ranging from a high of 93% at 0302 down to a low of 70% at 1701.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Wednesday I was up midday for my ultrasound appointment at a slightly closer/smaller Kaiser facility off Shady Grove Road. All went well there, and my bladder checked out well, as it is emptying nicely and in good shape. I took a mid-afternoon GLOBE CLOUD observation through the high overcast. I spoke with Marty about my ultrasound appointment and preliminary results, a family heirloom watch and its repair and the very preliminary details on the proposed early fall visit out to Robin and Gideon.
Wednesday was mostly cloudy (see today’s featured image), warmer and muggier with showers and storms associated with the slowly approaching cool front to the NW staying well to the N and W in western MD and PA. Thursday should be partly cloudy and drier (lower dew points) with partly cloudy skies, pleasant breezes and highs in the mid 80s and lows around 60°. Friday should be sunny with highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 50s. Partly cloudy skies on Saturday with highs in the low 80s, lows in the mid 60s. Father’s Day Sunday should be partly cloudy and hotter, with highs around 90° and lows in the low 70s. Monday looks to heat up even more under partly cloudy skies, with highs in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s.
At 0604 NBC4 radar is clear through the 4 state mid-Atlantic region with the closest rain found up in northern New England and off the Carolina coast in the Atlantic at this time.
At 0604, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Partly Cloudy wtih slowly dropping dew points
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Wednesday
VP2 Ground 71.2° 76% 63° 29.92″R NA 83.3°/65.8°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Wednesday. The VP2 tipping bucket also recorded 0.00″. I think the generally greater amount in the VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge recently has been at least partially due to its proximity to a dense evergreen tree that frequently drips down and then blows the “catch” into the gauge. I mostly use this gauge to tell me when and how hard it rained.
Wednesday’s precipitation was 0.00″
June precipitation 2.27″
Year-to-date precipitation total 20.69″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 71° 74% 62° 29.95″ R NW 1 G N 9
140° from station 85°/65°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Wednesday. June total precip remained at 6.59″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 32.63″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Wednesday night the temperature from the VP2 was 76.2° RH 88% BP 29.84″F DP 72.4°
Cloudy, warmer and muggy at 2400 Wednesday
Good morning from the partly cloudy, still muggy but slowly improving home of the walrus early on Thursday.
