A partly sunny, cooler, slightly wet update for West Rockville Maryland for Saturday May 5, 2018 and Sunday May 6, 2018

I was busy with my daughter Robin and my grandson wrapping up their visit here over most of the weekend, as they left here around 1600 on Sunday to fly back to Las Vegas, which they got safely back to by very early this morning in EDT. As I alerted to you about the probable lack of posts during parts of their visit I am combining two days into one post.  It was a great visit, time really flew on by. See today’s featured image for a goodbye picture out in the front of my apartment just prior to their departure on Sunday afternoon. Also see below image taken at the same spot with Granddaddio giving Gideon a bit of a thrill up high. Sorry about Gideon’s dirty feet. He loves to take his shoes off! <g>

I will try to briefly summarize the past two days of cooler, slightly wetter weather here. Saturday was mostly cloudy and cooler, with light rain (0.06″) falling in the evening. We went to a Cinco De Mayo party in Marriottsville MD, just south of where Marty lives in Eldersburg. (Marty went south for a wedding in Fredericksburg VA at the same time). The Saturday maximum temperature reached 75.8° very early @ 0000 from the leftover heat of Friday, while the Saturday minimum temperature dropped to 55.9° nearly 24 hours later @ 2316. The dew point temperatures rose a bit on Saturday, ranging from a high of 59° early @ 0152 down to a low of 41° @ 1143. The barometric pressure lowered a bit from yesterday, reaching the lowest value of the day of 29.97″ @ 0008 up to a high of 30.15″ @ 1242. The relative humidity rose a bit with the rain, ranging from a high of 88% at 2034 down to a low of 37% at 1143.

The Sunday maximum temperature reached 67.2° @ 1548, while the Sunday minimum temperature dropped to 54.6° much earlier @ 0154. The dew point temperatures rose a bit on Sunday, ranging from a low of 51° early @ 0000 up to a high of 60° @ 1542. The barometric pressure lowered a bit from yesterday, reaching the highest value of the day of 30.10″ @ 0002 down to a low of 29.86″ @ 1553. The relative humidity rose a bit with more light rain, ranging from a high of 92% at 0430 down to a low of 72% at 1433. We had a partly cloudy day with light AM showers and cooler PM temps.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I use the data I post to cocorahs as my “official” precipitation total each day.

On Saturday prior to the party we had lunch at Longhorn Steakhouse in Germantown, then met Tracy for Starbucks just before she had to go to work for her big Cinco de Mayo celebrations at her Mexican restaurant La Mexicana very close by. On Sunday I rose a bit late and Robin brought me lunch from Ledo’s Pizza nearby and some delicious Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. We visited here for the afternoon, playing great with Gideon, with his soccer ball, the extra remotes I have for the TV, Robin’s children’s game on her IPad tablet, and all the great stuff I have around for Gideon to get into, running around with, organizing into his own piles, etc. They left at about 1620 and got back to Vegas late in the evening PDT. It was a great visit, the time went by all too quickly.

Friday and Saturday were partly to mostly cloudy, cooler, with occasional light rainy periods. Overnight into Monday we had clear skies and pleasantly cool temps, with lows falling into the mid-low 50s. Monday is turning out partly cloudy with plenty of fair weather cumulus dancing about the sky with highs in the low 70s and lows in the lower 50s. Tuesday and Wednesday should be sunny with highs in the mid-upper 70s and lows in the low-mid 50s. Thursday should turn somewhat cloudy in the afternoon and warmer with highs in the low 80s, with a 40 POP for PM thunderstorms., lows in the upper 50s. Friday should be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the mid 50s.

On the Channel 4 radar at 1620 Monday there are scattered showers out in the mountains to the west stretching SW from there into the Smokies of western NC.

As of 1620 Monday, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

Partly Cloudy, dry and seasonable – looks like a few nice days till Thursday …

Station Relative Location Temp RH    DP     BP       Wind High/Low temp
VP2              Ground          73.2° 48% 52° 30.08″S  NA   75.8°/55.9° (Sat)
                                                                                       67.2°/54.6° (Sun)
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.06″ through midnight Saturday. Then through midnight Sunday an additional 0.04″ was collected. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony recorded 0.00″ through the period – it must be clogged.

Saturday’s precipitation was 0.06″
Sunday’s precipitation was 0.04″
May precipitation is now 0.11″
Year-to-date precipitation total is 11.85″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 73° 41% 50° 30.10″S NNW 3 G NNW 9
140° from station                      75°/56° (estimated- Sat)
                                                                                69/54° (Sun)
The Lakewood rain gauge reported 0.04″ of precipitation on Saturday. It reported an additional 0.02″ on Sunday However, May is now showing 0.25″ for the month and there is a 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount of 15.06″. I still believe at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Saturday night the temperature from the VP2 was 56.0° RH 84% BP 30.10″S DP 51.3°
At 2400 obs Sunday night the temperature from the VP2 was 58.2° RH 87% BP 29.98″R DP 54.3°
Clear, cooler at 2400 Sunday

Good afternoon from the partly cloudy, seasonable, dry home of the walrus mid-afternoon on this Monday. Still catching up on things that went off to the side while daughter and grandson were visiting – would take that trade any and all the time if presented to me.. We had some fun and visited plenty but could have done more!
